Fun and Relaxing
I'm having nothing but fun with my Kefeierdodo Steel Drum! I keep it out with the other instruments in our home, and find myself picking out songs on it several times a day - it's hard to walk by without giving it at least a few taps. I'm only just learning to play (there are some excellent courses online) but it's very easy to figure out. While they're made of steel, these should not be confused with the Caribbean steel drum, a related but different instrument. Also known as a Handpan, Tongue Drum, or Chinese Drum, this instrument can be played in the lap or supported on a table or stand. Tuned to the key of C (but easily changed to D) the thirteen notes on this drum give you a complete chromatic scale, like all of the keys - white and black - from middle C on the keyboard through a full octave, making it possible to play almost any melody. Two mallets are included, as well as six pads which can be used on the fingers. With a little practice, it can be played with bare hands. My Kefeierdodo Steel Drum was in tune when I received it (once it reached room temperature) but tuning information is available online if yours needs to be adjusted. Each of the tongues comes with a numbered sticker applied, and a spare set of stickers is included. These can be used with the included song book for your initial learning; before very long I found I knew the notes by position and now keep the stickers on only to aid my grandchildren, who love playing "Grandpa's Drum." The instrument comes in a very nice zippered carry case which can both protect it and make it easy to travel with. It's a fun instrument to play, a little unusual but not so offbeat as to be unwelcome at the campfire or jam session. I love it.

Thirteen Soothing Notes!
I am amazed by the relaxing tones such a simple device produces. Rubberized/flexible round center insert on the bottom changes pitch from key of C to D. I was disappointed that on unit I received, this insert wouldn’t stay secured within the bottom opening (seems likely that it will get lost in handling).Basic instruction book includes a variety of songs to play if you’re not into improvising your own magic melodies! It’s also disappointing that the “tongue” numbers are just gold lettering on clear stickers (a couple had already gotten mis-aligned, but sellers did provide an extra set).Provided with both two (2) round headed mallets, two (2) different style sets of finger pad strikers (not three sets as stated in ad), and a wooden mallet stand. I like the twin-zippered canvas carrying case with both hand and shoulder loop carry straps.I don’t practice any mystic arts or serious music skills, but the ethereal tones of this drum are nice companions to wandering thoughts and a journey into a restful state of mind. Thanks for confirming your personal vote of “helpful” on my photos and information. Your affirmation of the benefit of my efforts on your behalf is both important and greatly appreciated!

You got to hit it just right
The little cut designs on the tabs end up muffling the sound if you accidentally hit it there, so you need to be careful with your aim on this. Those cuts appear to only be for aesthetic purposes, but it gives a bit of a different tone depending on which side you hit it on.As for sound, it's not too bad. Though the scale on this seems a little off, and I'm kind of wondering if part of that is due to them forcing those little weird cut designs on it. You can push in or pull out the tabs a bit to alter the sound to a small degree, but I wouldn't suggest being too extreme with it.My set also came with a broken stick (the things they list as "Malites") and the wood feels weak, so it might not be a bad idea to get some other mallets or drumsticks to try. It also comes with little ring-like finger pads (the things they list as their "premmium rubber pads") but it seems to take some practice to get used to them without muffling the sound. The numbers on it are removable stickers. Which is convenient in a way, but they look like they were badly slapped on and were already falling off right out of the box.

Attractive with good quality sound
In case there's any confusion, this is not a child's plaything. My son has been drumming for several decades, and while he doesn't play steel drums routinely, he has a drummer's interest in percussion instruments of all types. This one is a lovely little decorative accent piece for our home that he can make sing - it both looks good and sounds good in the hands of an experienced musician. I could not say if this makes it show quality and neither could he, as his regular instrument is a more traditional pop/rock drumkit, but i can say that it is beautifully clear and melodic in our home.
