Reinventing Pink Floyd: From Syd Barrett to the Dark Side of the Moon

A Floyd fan must have.
Well written, good facts about the early years. Many break downs of Floyd's tunes and sessions.

The companion to The Early Years
While The Early Years Box Set is obviously a very extensive and thorough product, it doesn't have much in the way of notes or other informative information to put the music into its proper context. This book corrects that and it does it well. I believe someone without an encyclopedic knowledge of the band would be well-served by this book while reviewing the box set.My only knock on the book is that there are some distracting factual errors. That's enough for me to dock half a star but since Amazon doesn't do half stars, I guess I will round up.

Don’t buy it.
If you want a mediocre grade GCSE in Pink Floyd, this is the book. It will tell you what keyboard Rick Wright used after X minutes of song ABC, or some uninteresting fact about a David Gilmour guitar solo. But it is utterly devoid of emotion or feeling - it captures NOTHING of how or why the band’s music moves people so much. I was hoping for so much, given the brilliance of much of their music from 1967-1973, but was left thinking it was if the ‘Daily Mail’ had tried to write a book on the benefits of immigration.
