Shimano CATANA RC Spinning Reels (CAT1000RC) Fishing

Got the 2500S (shallow spool) and loaded it up with 2lb mono or 0.6PE. The braid definitely cast much further to be sure. These reels are not the Stella, they were never designed to be so. They are good quality reels for cost. They have been smooth and have stayed smooth even for years (without maintenance). They are not perfect, but they have never let me down either. Caught many rainbow trout on these, passed one of them on to my brother and he uses it where he lives. Fishes for trout, pan fish, large/small mouth bass, pickeral... No issues so far.

Solid and well built! Extremely smooth reeling and well balanced! I have both the 2500 and 1000 and love the rear drag for fighting big fish that move in and out of rapids.. I can let them run down into the next pool and but the brakes on them before they can get down to the next run of rapids with a quick turn of the back drag! With the drag adjust on the back, I never have to worry about my finger getting against the line and breaking off a big fish.. I use 2lb to catch 3 lb trout because their eyes see the 4lb test, and it’s really easy to touch the line when the drag is on top by the spool... With the drag on the back, I have way more control of quick drag changes and I have way more control over the fight! I’m off to mount lassen in a couple weeks to break these 2 new ones in!!!

It’s a great reel. I have it on my medium action rod. It feeds out a great cast with the Spyderwire braid at 8lbs.

The reel works fine buy the drag knob on the back of the reel is just cheap plastic cap ! The release switch is also pretty cheesy !

I like rear drag reels. I'm surprised Shimano has not embraced the rear drag design on their high end spinning reel. This is a good quality reel for a great price.

Typical of Shimono this is a great real that does not break the bank and works

This reel is a very low budget item for the novice fisherman, or perhaps his wife. I was looking for something inexpensive to pair with a couple of Ugly Sticks for Trout fishing. Didn't come close to meeting expectations and I put both reels back in the box. Stepped up to the Shimano Vanford 500F. Now that's a sweet Trout reel, though it costs 6x what the Catana does. Again, it all comes down to your specific needs and experience.

Caught like a 100 fish not one jam and zero problems. I match it with a medium rod so I could feel the fish. Remember this is not for big fish. You will be happy using it inside a sound or pond fishing.

For the money this is one fantastic little reel, light, very, very smooth and quiet. The rear drag works a treat and you can can have it on forward and reverse or just forward, no annoying clicking, just silent when retrieving. It comes with a spare spool Lovely bit of kit and well made
