Pretty much what I expected.
I was looking for a combination lock not only to eliminate the need to carry a key, but also to help deter typical thief who is well familiar with how to defeat a typical lock. I did not want the lock to be key enables even as a back up. This unit was the answer. This lock is not a digital lock, it is completely mechanical. has a nice built to it. I took my time on the installation which took about 45 min. changing the combination is straight forward if you read and follow the instructions. you unscrew four screw in the back of the keypad, press and keep the C button down, then with the provided tweezer you remove and replace some red pins with some blue pins. Order of the digits does not matter with this lock. the provided pins allowed me to set a 6 digit combination. the instructions talked about a 7 Didit combination but there were not enough red pins in the box to do that. you can go down to a 3 or 4 digit combination if I am not mistaken. In theory, it is possible for someone to use a brute force method an by trying all the possible combinations ultimately open the lock. but It would take that person more than a couple of hours to do that. This is not a super high security lock anyways (most locks are not). There are easier/faster ways to defeat this lock than to try all of its possible combinations. I can think of one way, but I am not gonna share it online. I think this is great for low security areas (e,g, installed on a door to the pool area where the combination could be shared with all the tenants in the building), or when you need a lock that does not have a key. I like the fact that this is not Digital/electronic. I read a lot of review about those and they seem to be too complicated, too expensive, and things can go wrong with them like all other electronics (too complex of a unit has too many points of failure). the first time I installed this lock, I realized it unlocks the door without combination but would require the combination to unlock the door. a quick look a the documentation and I realized I have the lock set of a left hand door and I need to change it to a right hand door. Two small blue screws in the back of the luck gives you access to a small pin. you take the pin out of left hole and put it on the right hole and voila, you got yourself a lock for a right hand door. I am a very handy person and I have all sorts of tools. I rate the install at moderate as I had to make some other minor adjustments to the door to make it work. if you are not handy with tools and locks, I recommend you hire a locksmith for the install. This lock also required drilling an 8mm hole in my door which is not ideal. but it looks, works, and feels fine and that is all that matters.

Good after two years
I've had this a couple of years and it has worked consistently. It is not exposed to the rain where I have it. I got the black finish and the finish has held up well to finger prints and children. The expansion kit is well worth it to have a code with more than 3 digits. I think this is important because the number you choose for your code can be entered in any order to make it open, therefore 4 or 5 digits is harder to guess than three.

Shipped with two lefts
This is a very sturdy lock set, a high quality feeling, good looking lock, however both sides had the exact same throw. So, if you put it on a door or gate, if you unlocked one side, it locked the other, or vice versa, instead of locking both or opening both simultaneously. This essentially made it useless! The instructions on how to remedy this were vague, but hubby was able to figure out how to reconfigure the throw. It works great now, but it is totally confusing and if you are not skilled with mechanical devices and locks, it could be a nightmare. It would have gone back if he wasn't the genius he is. Not sure if it was returned or that was why that one cost less than the others. I am not sure what usually gets shipped. That said, super pleased with it! Would have been a 5 star if right out of the box or a 1 star if he couldn't figure it out.

Excellent lock
Excellent lock that allows you to enter with a key or using the code of your choice. No batteries to worry about. You will probably need expert installation. So far I am very satisfied. Be aware that this lock comes on two types. One that is manufactured with a unique key for your lock snd one that is manufactured with a key that could fit other locks of this type. So someone out there has a key that could fit your lock. I did not know this until the locksmith informed me.

Good Product, Lame Instructions
This lock was installed on an outside iron fence gate. If the instructions were good, I would have rated this as Five Star. But the instructions were so lame and wrong that it required some trial and error to get it right. Setting the tumblers for whatever combination you want is straightforward and easy. When you have to set the pins for a left or right hand door is when it gets bad because of the instructions. The instructions say that the pins are set for a right hand door. But they are not. The pins should be opposite on the inside and outside locks but they were shipped on the same side. So, I did not know which pin to move for a left hand door. Required trial and error to figure it out. If you have a left hand door, for the outside lock the pin should be on the right, and for the inside lock the pin should be on the left. Should be opposite for a right hand door.

Excellent mechanical lock
I like having lock with a code on my front door to be able to lock and unlock with no key. Had a Kwikset electronic lock for a couple of years before it died. Internal gears were plastic and just stopped working. This lock is different. It is purely mechanical with no batteries. It is solid metal and feels heavy and sturdy. It is easy to install with the original hole, plus you need to drill 1 other small hole. It is also easy to change the code for the lock and can have any combo from 3 to 5 numbers without having to buy anything different. The lock does need to be removed to change the code. The code can be punched in with any order of numbers, but there is still an enormous amount of combinations that would have to be punched in for someone to figure out the code. The instructions are pretty poor, but the lock was fairly easy to figure out even with no instructions. This is not cheap Chinese crap. It is made in Japan but is much more sturdy than the Kwikset lock.
