24 tracks-Two CDs worth of music. Playable on both standard CD and SACD players, 36 page booklet. At long last, these 24 thought-to-be-lost recordings by the late, great Gene Clark is now in release on Sierra Hybrid SACD and Sierra High Fidelity on 2 LP audiophile vinyl set. These incredible recordings, which have never been released commercially, are from the original analog master studio recording sessions held in Los Angeles between 1964 and 1982. Gene Clark was one of the most influential musical pioneers of the rock era. A pivotal figure at the births of rock music's golden trifecta of hyphenated subgenres (folk, psychedelic and country) in the1960s, he earned his rightful place in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member and principal songwriter of The Byrds. After leaving the Byrds at the height of their fame in early 1966, Clark embarked upon a fearless solo career that embraced everything from chamber pop and progressive bluegrass to acoustic ballads and sweeping cosmic prog. His rich body of work has spawned cover versions by a wide range of artists, including Robert Plant/Alison Krauss, The Eagles, Tom Petty, Linda Ronstadt and others. Always forward-looking, always prolific, Clark left behind a rich legacy of professionally recorded music both released and unreleased. This album introduces previously unreleased studio sessions from Clark's pre-Byrds days in 1964, to his 1982 reunion with former bandmates, Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke, as Nyteflyte. Since his passing in 1991, many of Gene Clark's home demo recordings and various live recordings have been released. Actual studio recording sessions were rare and their existence was more rumor than fact until now! This collection of "lost"

Buy This Cd!
It very well may be his worst cd because of inconsistency but it is still better than 80% of what you could buy.. It starts out slowly but the last third makes the cd a valuable purchase and for Gene Clark fans an essential one

A Treasure Trove For Gene Clark Fans
For those who love Gene Clark and his music this is a must addition to your collection for at least two reasons. First, it surfaces another cache of Gene Clark recordings never before, to my knowledge, generally available to the public. Two the audio quality of this two CD set is outstanding which is remarkable since many of these recordings were not intended as finished product That being said there are nuggets of "finished" songsas well as demos.I have been a fan of Gene Clark since he first appeared on the music scene as a member of the Byrds in 1965. I have bought every official album and we'll over a dozen albums of out takes and live performances. Given that Gene Clark died in 1991 it is amazing that given all the new material previously released on recordings since his death there is still enough "new " unreleased songs to fill a 2CD package. These songs are consistent with high quality of Gene Clark's songwriting ,some from the mid 60s, Some from the early 70's and some Firebyrd era material in finished form with Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen among the band members. If you have never listened to Gene Clark before, this not the place to start although you will still find the album interesting. If you are a fan then this is highly recommended.

Not the Sessions Advertised
I thought I was ordering the full session, as advertised. That is what the posted reviews commented on (Gene Clark: the Lost Studio Sessions 1964-1982). Instead I received a CD with only four cuts. However, I must admit the "The Virgin" turned out to be the most clear and crisp version I have ever heard. Still, based on the product description and supporting reviews that were posted by your vendor, I expected to receive what was advertised (a two CD set with 4+++ songs). Pleased with what I did recieve. not so thrilled about what I didn't recreive.

"New" Gene Clark Release Interesting but Ultimately Disappointing
While I am a huge fan of the late Gene Clark (one of the original members of The Byrds), I must be honest and say I was a bit disappointed in this release. Packaging, illustrations and liner notes are all FIVE STARS, absolutely no complaints there. However, after all the hoopla surrounding the announcements of this release, I found about half of the selections historically important but sonically and artistically a bit underwhelming. Again, I am a HUGE fan of Gene Clark, but most of the first 14 songs seem to me like throwaways, not songs I would listen to more than once just to hear Clark's development as a songwriter (and maybe that was the point of including them). Far more significant to me are tracks 15 through 24 which bear multiple listenings and are worthy of a place on any Gene Clark release. In my opinion, this is for hardcore Gene Clark fans only. Those not really familiar with his talent would do better getting "White Light", "Roadmaster", "Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers" or "The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard and Clark" instead. My two cents.

Fine collection of unreleased material
In the latter years the recognition, that Gene Clark was one of the greatest singer- songwriters of the 60's 70's and 80's, has spread around most of the world. So the search for some of the vast amount of unreleased material, that he left behind, has been intensive. This fine project has been given the green light from Gene Clarks two sons, musicians themselves - and there are no stinkers on this one.Having said that, i don't think there are any new, secret hidden masterpieces on it either. The main attraction are the seven until now unreleased acoustic songs, and a couple of them are very good, but not masterpieces - we're talking Gene Clark, and the bar has to very high here. The best moment is what might be the only recording of two of my musical heroes Gene Clark & Gram Parsons playing together, a version of She Darked The Sun with Gram Parsons on piano and vocals and featuring the rest of the Flying Burrito Brothers at that time, Michael Clarke, Chris Hillman and Bernie Leadon:The Niteflyte-tracks are interesting and OK, Gene Clark was a terrific country-singer, and he shows just that on a very fine version of Rodney Crowells great tear-jerker No Memories Hanging Around.I know there's still some officially unreleased Gene Clark-material out there - it may be surprising for many that he actually recorded a version of the Smokie-classic Living next door to Alice - but with this one, the Clark-archeologists may have dug out the best of the left-overs.

The Lost Studio Sessions 1964-1982
What a gem. How come Gene never included those tracks on an album? None of the tracks were the usual outtakes, demos or live. I hate it when albums repeat songs with outtakes and demos. One version of a song is enough. This was like listening to a brand new album. Gene's solo guitar songs are magnificent, no backing necessary. It amazes me he has so many unpublished songs up his sleeve.

Great Discoveries
Great lost sessions from 1964 until the Flyte group this is real gem of a release. Definitely the 1967 onwards sessions are the real deal but I was very surprised at how good the Flyte songs were and the attempts at Gram Parsons songs, he could interpret other songwriters but I wondered if he had any of his own available. Thus us privy but it is in SACD format.I would hope that there are further jewels to be unearthed like this

B. Roadmaster, No other, Gene Clark & Carla Olson, Echoes, Gene Clark etc. Meine Antwort: NEIN! EIN KLARES NEIN!

One for the hardcore fans.
If you have just got into or are looking to get into Gene Clark, then this is not the place to.start. It is a collection of well recorded early demos, most songs unheard before, some the early incarnations of yet to become Clark classics.A music fan new to Gene Clark would be better off buying 'White Light' and ''No Other' as an introduction. Then follow on with the other commercially released studio albums. If you have bought all the previously released studio albums, then its time to get this one, it's magic! A wonderful set of recordings for the Gene Clark fans who care about time.Hallways and Staircases.
