Gold Experience: Following Prince in the ’90s

In the wake of Prince's sudden passing last year, I, like many fans, am interested in the recent publications that have flooded the market claiming insight into the life of this musical genius. But, as a die hard fan of every aspect of Prince's long career, I don't want to waste money on publications that regurgitate what i already know. I am looking for fresh insight on the enigmatic genius not a biography. Mr. Walsh's book is exactly what it claims to be: short articles written for a Minneapolis publication, but there is a surprising depth to the articles. The articles are not written by a journalist just filling space. These are not tabloid fodder or prefuntory fluff pieces. They are written by a Prince FAN who was in the enviable position to not only be local so as to take advantage of events at Paisley Park but be summoned personally by the little purple paisley love dude for interviews. This book is a quick read but worth it. If you don't have to have a copy for the bookshelf collection as I do, you may want to consider the Kindle version of this book.

This book is fantastic. It was written in real time since it is a collection of articles the author wrote while following Prince in the 90's. Instead of a book "looking back" it's written as if you're living in the Prince world in 1994, 1995, 1996.... and so on. Fantastic! Must read for those who are interested in Prince AFTER the 80's and the symbol-era Prince world.

Everybody wants 2 tell what's already been told... Not Jim. Jim is sharing his own private personal/professional reflection of the most influential artist of all time. Thank U for sharing.

Good stories about Prince. The author seems to care for him as a person and not simply an icon.

Really enjoyed reading what was written by Mr. Walsh as he wrote about Prince throughout a long period of Prince's life. Clearly he has a tremendous amount of respect for the artist as do I. Reading about his face to face meetings with Prince was a highlight of the book.

This book is a treasure, just like its subject - Prince.

I read this book in one go, could not put it down. So far, with Mayte Garcia's book, which concentrated on their private life, this is for me, the best insight into music life of little genius in 90's. Much more because Jim Walsh was there, he was very close and the only journalist who tried to understand Prince. Highly recommended for any Prince fan.
