An interesting book by the Queen of Crime
Got the book in excellent condition from Amazon. It is one of the six psychological crime of heart novels by Agatha Christie written under the pseudonym, Mary Westmacott. Five stars for the quality of the physical book; four stars for the story. It's a very good novel but not as good as Absent in the Spring or The Unfinished Portrait. Also the blurb is a bit misleading. It's not merely about the burden of a sister's love but burden of different types of love. Overall would recommend giving it a try.

This is one of the most mesmerizing novels I have ever readInitially the book seems to be the story of a loner and depressed girl who is just jealous of her own siblingsBut as the story continues the book grabs the attention of the reader.The climax and the last few words were my favorite.

Brilliant study of human nature - true to her detectives Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot
The queen of crime could not resist an inconsequential murder. As it turns out, it was not quite inconsequential. There are no twists in this story but there are in how the characters turn more than once. How often men and women test their own mettle and courage when faced with the extraordinary. Quite contrary to her expectation and analysis of her own nature, the quiet selfless older sister finds herself relieved of the burden of loving; and a carefree, self proclaimed selfish younger sister finds living absolutely hateful once her ward dies. Agatha Christie made a splendid study of contradiction in human nature and behavior through this novel. Interesting.
