Paradigm Shift in the Treatment of Eating Disorders
As a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist I work with individuals who have eating disorders on a daily basis. I firmly believe that Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy is not just a new and exciting form of therapy, it represents a paradigm shift in the field of psychiatry. Discovering RO-DBT as a psychiatrist answered so many lingering questions that I couldn't find answers to anywhere else and finally put into words for me the things that I had been seeing time and time again. It has helped me understand my patients and has helped my patients understand themselves. There is a very good chance that if you're considering buying this book, the first few pages alone while be eye opening to you. This is not your average self-help book. This workbook represents the bleeding edge in the treatment of eating disorders and is written by experts in the field. For example, the Maudsley Method, developed at the Maudsley Hospital in London is internationally accepted as the Gold Standard Treatment of Anorexia Nervosa in Children and Adolescents. Dr. Simic, one of the authors of this book, is joint head at the Maudsley Center for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders.I highly recommend this book to anyone, particularly to psychiatrists and therapists.

Life changing
I've struggled on and off with an eating disorder for years and have tried so many different types of therapy (DBT, CBT, ACT, etc. ) It all helped, but nothing address the root cause until this book. The book is well written and keeps things light and humorous, with lots of activities along they way to keep you engaged. I'm very glad my therapist recommended this book and have recommended it to others as well.

So far, so good!
So far, this has been an interesting book to work through with my Theropist. It is humorous and well written. I would suggest this only if you have someone with whom to guide you through.

Seems helpful, but ignores autism
I've only read the first two chapters, but so far, this workbook disappointingly leaves out autism and how it affects control. For example, autistic people love routines, predictability, and structure because our brains work differently, not because we're overcontrolling. I skimmed the rest of the workbook and it doesn't seem to address autism later, either. A pretty big oversight. Otherwise this looks helpful. I hope the authors address autism in future editions.

Wonderful resource- so grateful that this workbook exists!
As a clinician who specializes in treating eating disorders, I have been counting down the days for this workbook to arrive!RODBT is a novel and unique evidence-based treatment that has demonstrated efficacy in treating eating disorders (and other disorders of overcontrol) by targeting behaviors and traits that characterize overcontrol such as rule-governed behavior, rigidity, perfectionism, and loneliness/social disconnection. This workbook does a beautiful job of introducing new ways of coping for folks with eating disorders and offers novel ways of approaching former "stuck points" and themes (such as flexibility, shame, social comparisons, bitterness, harsh judgements, enhancing intimacy) that clinicians like myself have encountered or struggled to target within other treatment approaches.I especially love the chapter about "how your biology affects you and your relationships" and how this chapter specifically speaks to how having an eating disorder impacts one's emotion systems. I also loved the designated "CHILL BREAKS" throughout the workbook, explicitly reminding the reader to slow down and take a break, relax, and reflect (this was greatly appreciated by this clinician, who leans a bit overcontrolled and wanted to devour the workbook in one sitting)! This workbook expertly combines educational material with tangible examples and exercises for practice (with some humor and fun tucked in throughout, as well). I've already recommended it to many other clinicians and therapy clients!
