From someone who cares nothing about lawn care - this thing is AWESOME.
So like many I hate yard work. It's friggin hot in Florida. I have a kid that mows the front of the house but the back cannot be mowed because I have solar panels everywhere. Plus the kid just has a riding mower its not like he's doing the worlds best job. But I'm lazy, I have health issues that screw up my body and well it sucks. I bought this because I needed to do the backyard as well as clean up the front lawn. I had never heard of this company but the more research I did, it kept coming up as either a top choice or close. It had lots of good reviews so I said sure I'll try it! I was torn between which model to buy but ended up going with the top of the line one the 16" diameter with the automagic line release when chopping away. I always HATED putting line in my gas trimmer, it was always something and just was irritating. I liked that it came with line pre-loaded and how the system works to load new line when its time. It also came with an extra set of the yellow/orange line. So I went to town with this thing, I chopped down all kinds of weeds and edged the front of the house. You can kinda feel and even hear when the system releases more line. I'm a trained engineer and I'm very stumped on how it knows it needs to release line. I abuse my tools and this thing is a champ! The only major gripe I have is that they don't sell branded line in 16" diameter yellow/orange line replacement. They have 14 and 15 but no 16. Weird. So I bought their premium braided line which I will have to use one day. So far the line holds up well. The battery well its basically a 60V Lithium Ion setup that stores 300wh of power. I happen to have as a hobby batteries! (remember the solar? yeah) The battery life was approx 50 minutes give or take. If you let the battery sit a few mins in between jobs Li Ion batteries by their chemistry will slightly increase the voltage of the battery. The charger is nice and fast, I don't think its loud but I have all kinda of fans and gadgets with fans. Ironically I build Lithium battery packs to power parts of my own, that recharge via solar. So I thought to myself "what if I built a bigger battery and stored it in like a backpack? Guess what the company sells!!! They have a backpack style power system but its not using a different battery. So I picked up a backpack and cut away everything I was only interested in the wire and the connection system. I used Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries(LFP) which are safer than Li-ion. And I built a mega battery that stores around 3kWh of power. So I gained 10X power. Of course that pack is heavy so its more of a 'I wonder if I can do it' but its nice not to ever worry if I'm going to run out of power. I also got the strap for it, mostly for my g/f. Bleh its ok its not the best and I bet one of my rifle slings would do better lol. Some things to remember for safety about Liion batteries. NEVER leave them. completely discharged for a long time, now I'm sure the battery management system on-board takes care of this by calling out "dead" at a safe voltage for storage. Rule of thumb for extended store for those type of batteries is to store them around 30% full. It's actually not great to store it completely charged either for long periods of no use. This is true for your Telsa, and anything else using LFP and Li-ion batteries. Also best practice is the wait a bit before charging it after you just ran it for 50 minutes. If you can, give it 2-3 hrs of rest before recharging it will make your battery last much longer if you follow basically rules of Lithium based batteries. I'm a battery nerd I told ya, engineer, and solar DIY hobbyist. Do not charge or leave your battery somewhere that gets crazy hot OR cold. I'm very happy I went with I call a 'no-name brand' trimmer. Even though it sounds like it IS a name brand up there with DeWalt and the others. I really do hope they make more of the pre-cut 16" string. It's a PITA to cut sting, drop it hot water to get it uncurled and then feed it into the trimmer. I love the already cut stuff!! String seems to be lasting well, I beat it hard. I have had "delayed" automatic line release happen a few times. I'm talking 2-3 minutes tops. I don't think you can go wrong w/this brand and exact model. I love it. Beats my gas powered one that would just leave me stinking of gasoline exhaust and had to deal with the stupid line. Plus the gas powered one likely doesn't work anymore its been sitting rotting for a long time. I may try to take the engine out of it and see if I can play with it. Yeah I wrote a book. I do that sometimes. Whatever. Yellow/orange line = 5/5 Automagic line release = 4.9/5. (only cause of that delay sometimes) Weight = 5/5 (and I have a bad back) Toughness = 5/5 Cutting through deep stuff! - 5/5 Strap = 2/5 Battery = 5/5 (50 min runtime is respectable) Charger noise = 5/5 (I dont think its loud but YMMV) Cost = 4/5 Overall = 5/5

Best outdoor tool ever!
I'm an old boomer and have done my own yard work my whole life. I've owned a large number of outdoor tools, and this trimmer may be the best such tool I have ever purchased. The auto-sensing of the line length and the automatic line feeder have so far worked perfectly, and the weedeater seems to use line sparingly; I've had the machine since March and have only used the line that came with it and one 14 foot refill...and I live in the deep south. The EGO is plenty powerful, and I tend to use a 2.5 Ah battery rather than the 4.0 Ah battery that came with the tool to make it a little lighter. I run out of power long before the battery does! It still has four of five lights on when I give up. I have long sworn by my Echo gas weedeater, but this machine is probably as powerful and a lot less trouble to operate. No more mixing gasoline, priming, pulling a rip cord, bump-feeding the line, or manually refilling it.

THIS SUCKER IS THE BEST!!! BUY IT NOW!!
My last 3 are in a Missouri land fill, the most recent a popular yellow and black one that needed a head every time used, it did a double gainer into the back of a blue truck and some dude named grok recommended this one... a little pricey I thought... but you know what.... it DOES EVERYTHING IT SAYS, BUT BETTER AND CHEAPER AND FASTER THAN THE OTHERS WITH MORE FUN. AN INGENIOUS STRING RELOAD... SECONDS. BALANCED, RECHARGER IS AWESOME. Battery is heavy, but very well balanced, harness mount equipped, no harness provided, I DON'T NEED NO STINKING HARNESS ON THIS BABY it rides along looking for something to whack... not weighing you down. Why did I write this review so late... today I took on a 20 year old 150 ft metal smash top metal fence infested with Forsythia and it mowed them down like there was no tomorrow, I had to double time to keep up with the darn thing.. Twist the forward handle so the head is sideways and the string is running parallel to the verticals and we had Forsythia flying everywhere. And yes, I used both the supplied string which works well and the other Amazon string dual twist center thigamagigs... I don't know but it sure worked good. It was great, 150 feet and never having to beat the head on the ground repeatedly to get more string... not even once... never do that on this one... just get after the baddies and pull the trigger... this one is a treat to use.

Highly adjustable, high productivity trimmer with great battery capacity
To set the stage, I'm 87 years old with hands pretty well crippled by rheumatoid arthritis. A few years ago I volunteered to do trimming for a non-profit Nature Education Center, an old farm with extensive lawns, driveways, fence lines and structures. Lots of lawn grass, high grass, weeds including thistles, briars, etc.. Due to terrain, exposed rocks and tree roots, etc., there are extensive stretches the riding mower can't access so I actually do a fair amount of lawn mowing with the trimmer. I first used an EGO 1500 series trimmer with two 2.5 AH batteries and an accessory EGO shoulder strap. In two-plus seasons, I trimmed for a couple of hours almost every day that weather permitted so the trimmer received heavy use. It refused to run in early September, 2023. The new EGO 1623T offered some attractive features so I purchased it rather than have the 1500 repaired. Assembly posed minor problems. In a couple of spots machine screws have to pass through a drilled hole in one part and thread into a hole in a mating part. Alignments were not perfect and required a fair amount of strength to correct. However, given the machine that emerged, this is certainly no deal breaker. I was concerned that the new 4.0 AH battery might make the unit unpleasantly heavy. Not to worry. The increased weight is barely noticeable and the unit's balance is quite good. The increased battery capacity saves a lot of travel time getting spares. What amazed me most of all about the trimmer is how long the supplied spool of trimmer string lasted. I started using the trimmer on Sept. 6th. The last of the supplied string kicked out on Sept. 21st. The automatic line feed feature worked perfectly the entire time. The combination of the high-capacity battery, not having to bump-feed, not losing string to accidental bump-feeds and the durability of the EGO string allows long periods of uninterrupted work. I had previously used non-EGO string on large spools but have switched to EGO string for its durability. Needless to say, the EGO string loading process remains as painless as ever. Just take a 14 ft. length of string, pass one end into a hub eyelet, through the hub and out the other eyelet, even up the ends and push the close-by green button. The motor clicks away and the string in spooled inside. The 56 volt batteries are easy to grip and handle and they install and remove easily. I found early on with the prior 1500 series model that I needed a shoulder strap to take some of the weight and bought the AP1500 EGO strap. My experience with that strap has been disappointing with respect to longevity. At the machine end the nylon strap threads through a rectangular ring and is stitched back to itself to complete the attachment. The ring has an attached hook that clips onto a fitting on the trimmer tube. The problem is that the stitching used to close the loop around the ring is inadequate and fails prematurely. I have 3 otherwise-usable EGO straps that are useless because that stitching failed. I tried a generic strap but found the shoulder pad is much shorter than EGO's. That makes it much fussier to position on the strap such that it locates properly on the shoulder. By the way, I've seen reviews of the strap complaining that the shoulder pad doesn't attach to the strap and, instead, slides along it. In fact, the pad has to slide along the strap as the strap is adjustable in length. How it's adjusted determines where the pad should be located. One has only to pull the strap taut, slide the pad so it's centered at the top of the loop, lift the machine with a hand under the pad, pass the strap over the head and drop it on the shoulder. Other than the mentioned failure mode, the strap is well made and has an excellent shoulder pad. My fingers are misaligned due to the arthritis. With the 1500 trimmer I found it difficult to keep my index finger from slipping off the trigger. I improved the situation by wrapping rubber bands around the slippery plastic trigger to improve the grip. On that machine the trigger lock is a thumb-operated button. On the 1623 the trigger lock is a small lever at the forward end of the trigger. It is easily operated by the side of the finger being used to control the trigger. I find no tendency for my finger to slip off the trigger. The adjustments for tube length and the handle position are secure and operate smoothly. I routinely operate the unit in the lower speed range. My sense is that it's roughly equivalent in effectiveness to the 1500 at that setting. I switched it to the high setting to get a sense of what that offered and concluded that the speed wasn't needed and was therefore draining the battery unnecessarily. Bottom line: I'm glad my 1500 failed as the 1623 offers so much more convenience and productivity, albeit at a price premium.

Best electric line trimmer I've ever owned
The most difficult engineering challenge in human history - Creating a 'Weed Eater' that works properly This weekend (Jun 14-16, 2024) my Ryobi 40v cordless line trimmer (aka Weed Eater) finally bit the dust. Yes, the most critical part (the line trimmer head) stopped functioning completely. A spring has sprung, escaped its casing/housing in the head and ended up with a hunk of non-functioning junk. The trimmer was only two years old, was supposedly under warranty, but now I needed a new head unit. It's was partially working for the last year or so, but suddenly it's totally non-functional using the 0.65mm line. I could only get it to work if I use the fixed nylon 'blades' attachment; which wreaks havoc on my lawn. I went online to search for the necessary part - Guess what. That particular part is 'Unavailable'. I couldn't find it in stock anywhere, and I saw numerous indications that it's now 'Discontinued' Of course - A weed eater that I bought two years ago is now obsolete. I've owned numerous 'Weed Eaters' over the years, and in my opinion they were all 'Crap' - Why can't anyone/any company come up with a design that actually works? I probably spent more time fighting with the line dispensing part of the weed eater, than I did actually 'Whacking' weeds. I reached out to Ryobi regarding my weed eater, which I registered on their website. I was hoping that they could help me out. Unfortunately, I discovered some rather disturbing facts about my two year old weed eater. Despite the fact that I purchased this Ryobi 40v cordless line trimmer in July of 2022, and I have the receipt from Home Depot, the product was manufactured in 2013, and the 5 year limited warranty was only good from the date of manufacture. So this company (not sure which, Home Depot? or Ryobi?) kept this device in a warehouse so long that the 5 year warranty was expired before I even bought the thing. I tried filing a warranty repair through the Ryobi website (where I had registered the product - with proof of purchase), but they informed me that the unit was no longer under warranty - Because, yes you guessed it, it was manufactured in 2013, and the warranty ran out back in 2018. Is that even legal? Shouldn't a manufacturer's warranty be good from the date of original purchase? According to Ryobi, I'll have to get it 'repaired' at a qualified service / repair facility. Yeah, good luck with that. The part that I need (HOM129305001 head unit for Homelite and Ryobi brand line trimmers) is discontinued by the manufacturer, and I couldn't find any in stock anywhere (online searches came up 'Unavailable'). My Ryobi 40v line trimmer is now garbage after two years. Arrggghh! So I set about searching for a replacement. I ordered a new cordless line/string trimmer on the 19th of Jun, 2024. After much research; probably visited twenty different review sites/40+ webpages, watched appx 10 videos, made notes, a list of features I wanted, weighted functions, revised listed, compared costs, investigated warranties, company details/history, etc. Out of a list of 10 trimmers, I decided on the EGO brand, ST1623T model. Power+ (4.0Ah battery & charger), Powerload (automatically ingests/winds line onto head unit), string trimmer, with line IQ (automatic line dispensing technology). I confirmed (before purchase) that the 5 year tool warranty (3 year battery warranty) is based upon the purchase date (not the manufacture date), provided I register the warranty w/in 90 days of purchase). That's rather important, considering how screwed I got with the last purchase. Plus... Hard to admit it, last purchase was without research, and primarily based upon price and availability at the time of purchase. How many times do I have to learn that lesson? I ordered the new trimmer from Amazon (free shipping, price at nearest retail was cheaper, but way across town (not in stock at my nearby store), and I like the convenience of having it delivered to me (I'm paying extra for delivery - even if my Amazon prime provides 'free' shipping - Of course those delivery costs are built into the price of the product). Products (ordered extra 0.095 trimmer line (not the Ego branded) and a shoulder strap (not Ego branded)) were delivered over a week's time, and I had everything by the weekend following the placement of my order. FYI: Ego brand is owned by Chevron corporation (multinational). Thanks to all for recommendations, advice and information. I've used the trimmer/weed-eater four times since purchasing it. I wanted to make sure I had fully evaluated the trimmer before I post a full review. One of the most impressive features is the 'PowerLoad' feature. I was able to cut a length of trimmer line to approximately 15 feet, feed it through the head (which was a little tricky, but not too difficult), then press a button and the line was slowly (so I could make sure it didn't jam) fed into and wound around the spool in the head unit. So much easier than trying to do that manually. In using this particular trimmer, I found it to be efficient (not wasting line), easy to operate, powerful (maybe too much so) and affordable. I liked the fact that it had two power settings, but found it a bit heavy. Maybe I should have purchased the model with the smaller battery (I bought the model with a 4.0Ah battery, smaller sizes are available), as my lawn is quite small. Other plusses include the automatic line dispensing Line IQ technology (no manual fussing to dispense line, and no 'head thumping' on the ground) and the PowerLoad feature. I'm sure that I will learn (over time) how to handle this powerful trimmer. I've scalped the lawn a few times, and hope that I'll be able to avoid that by adjusting the position of the strap anchor point, and to better balance the weight distribution. A great electric lawn trimmer. The best I've owned so far. The only reason I didn't give it a five star was because of the over-powered nature of the trimmer. It's better targeted at those who plan to trim an area of overgrown weeds in a field, rather than a suburban lawn. I wish it was slightly less powerful; that way I wouldn't end up scalping my lawn as badly.

Best string trimmer I have ever owned!
The string trimmer is very easy to use. I put it together and under a half an hour. I see reviews where some say it’s heavy with the battery attached. But I am a female 70 years old and it’s not a problem. It has a low feature and a high feature setting. I was on YouTube watching numerous videos about it how to use it properly. Works great nothing bad to say. The battery last throughout my whole time doing yard work and still has more power left. Thank you.

Never again
Durability: F Customer Service: F This is my first and last EGO product. I purchased it in January when it was on sale, Opened it for the first time at the end of last week. Charged the battery, and it worked for about 1 whole minute then the electronics quit and it will not turn on. I contacted Ego for support, 3.5 hour wait time to get a representative, and talked to a rude customer service rep who was working from home and had his kids screaming and dogs barking so loud I couldn't hear him, and he was very rude. He wanted me to send him my receipts, so I did. I waited 3 days for a reply and then got this message: Thank you for sharing the invoice from Amazon. We appreciate you taking the time to provide that information. After reviewing the invoice, we were able to confirm that the String Trimmer was purchased from a third party seller listed as Mega Tools. Unfortunately, this seller is not an authorized EGO dealer. Because of this, the warranty for the product would not be considered valid, as warranty coverage only applies to products purchased through authorized EGO dealers. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this may cause. If you have any questions or if there is anything else we may assist you with, please let us know. So they refuse to send a Replacement or provide warranty service on a very expensive sting trimmer that failed after 1 minute. I would seriously look elsewhere.

Every Father's Dream!!
Writing Bought this for my husband for Father's Day because every husband knows the path to true happiness is receiving a new yard tool. This thing is an absolute beast. The power is incredible, and the Line IQ feature is so good it gives the lawn a cleaner fade than most barbers. The edges are crisp, the weeds don't stand a chance, and my husband suddenly became very interested in yard work. Now, it is a little heavy. But I wasn't going to let that stand in the way of his Father's Day joy. We hooked a dog leash onto it for a makeshift shoulder strap, and now he's free to weed eat to his heart's content. I've never seen a man so excited to voluntarily spend his weekend trimming weeds. He keeps finding things that "need a little touch-up." At this point, I'm concerned he may start offering landscaping services to the neighbors. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent product. If your husband likes tools, loud engines, and standing in the yard admiring his work, this is the Father's Day gift you've been looking for. 😂 Bonus ending: "My husband said this is the best Father's Day gift he's ever gotten. I think he loves it more than he loves me, but at least the yard looks fantastic."
