As I sat down to read Purgus, the second book of the Alison Hayes journey by Author Angie Gallion, I was excited and filled with wonder. The wonder in my mind was how could this next book in this series blow me away as did the first? Well, it did...not just a little but completely! The next step in the life of Alison was so gripping I actually felt like I wanted to enter the book and be a part of it. As I stated in my first review of Intoxic, this Author placed me right next to her. The writer once again captured the true feelings and gut wrenching pain that those of us like Alison feel in our actual lives. Myself, and so many out there have lived this live described in this journey. I say that because it is a journey, just like mine. Thanks to this one-of-a-kind Author I have turned and faced my own demons that have haunted me most of my life, and I'm 62. Through her writing I have found healing for a wound I have carried since I was a young boy. As I closed the book at the final chapter I was completely at peace. This journey of Alison is formidable and shows you can turn your life around no matter what has happens to you. She is us and we are her. I can only imagine what is in store for Alison in the next book (Icara), but I'm about to find out! Well done Angie Gallion!

It will touch your heart.
I probably loved this book more than the first book, "Intoxic", because I became attached to the main character, Allison, and wanted to know how her life continued. After reading the first book, the continuation of Allison's life journey takes her through the stages of becoming an adult and dealing with life changing situations. I was both sad and happy for her in the end and I'm glad to have had the opportunity to read this touching novel.

A GREAT continuation of Allison Hayes's life
A GREAT continuation of Allison Hayes's life! After the first attempt at reading, I had a tough time putting the book down, so I made it a weekend read. I could see the decisions that Allison had to make during this time in her life being a close to true story in some teenager's life some where in this world. Tough decisions, but good decisions. A possible book 3?

Poignant novel is a must-read for families affected by adoption
In book two of the insightful and heart-wrenching coming-of-age series that began with Intoxic, 17-year-old Alison Hayes is alone in the world. Freed from her traumatic bond with her alcoholic mother, she's belatedly catching up on the work of self-discovery that her adolescent peers have already begun. Naturally, this means an affair with a bad-boy older man who plays in a band, and naturally she's left to her own devices when baby-to-be makes three. In weighing her difficult choices for this unplanned pregnancy, Alison deepens her understanding of her mother's own troubles, aided by a box of mementos that help her find her grandparents and uncle. It is a testament to the psychological complexity of this novel that I wasn't sure, any more than Alison herself was, whether she made the best choice for herself and "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong"—the defiantly loving name that she gives to her unborn baby girl.Alison does a stint in a home for unwed mothers, which arranges semi-closed adoptions: no contact after the newborn is surrendered, but when the child turns 18, he or she can receive information about birthparents. Meanwhile, those birthparents may spend years in unresolved grief, wondering what happened to the baby they loved. This book made me glad to have an open adoption with my son's birthfamily. It is a must-read for potential members of the adoption triad (birthparents, adoptive parents, and child) and adoption social service professionals. From what I've heard, most residences for pregnant girls are not as nurturing as the one Alison finds, and even hers offered no post-adoption therapeutic support. Each book in this series makes me eager to find out what Alison will do next.

A page turner with great depth!
After reading Gallion's first book, Intoxic, I was anxious to see how the main character, Alison, would fare as she got a little older. While the general transition of a young girl moving into adulthood can be somewhat predictable, this extraordinary character allows us to witness the process in a unique, personalized way. The ups and downs of growing up are different for all of us, but Alison's tragedies and triumphs are explored with such rawness and sensitivity, that I wanted to jump right in between the pages of the book and help her myself. Never have I read a book where I was so drawn to the main character. Alison's problems became my problems; her downfalls also became part of my life. These honest and vivid character portrayals match perfectly with a fast-moving story line, and a plot that involves not only interesting external activities, but an intelligent understanding and portrayal of the psyche of the human spirit.I simply could not put this book down from the time I picked it up.

and reading these novels makes me feel like my daughter will have to read them
After reading Intoxic I was curious to see what would happen next in the life of Alison Hayes, the main character in both Intoxic and Purgus. I am an adult father, and reading these novels makes me feel like my daughter will have to read them. I came close a little after the mid-way point of Purgus to shedding tears, though they genuinely fell at the end. The hard realities the characters face are frequently the consequences of rash or uninformed decisions, even while trying to do the right thing. Purgus is a good read, a strong read, and a close examination of young female teen, Alison Hayes. Looking forward to Icara, the next book in the series.
