I never did get to thank Senator Wellstone.
I never did get to thank Senator Wellstone. By the time I was old enough to travel to some event where I might meet him, he was gone. When I was a teen, I used to watch Sen. Wellstone on C-SPAN as he talked passionately from the floor of the Senate about whichever cause he was fighting for that day. And invariably he would be on the side of social justice, on the side of education, on the side of fairness, on the side of the downtrodden. I didn't know much detail at all about a great many issues he cared about (in those pre-wikipedia days) but as I would listen to the debate he would, in his accessible yet professorial manner, explain and persuade. And along the way he would challenge the falsehoods of other senators (usually advanced on behalf of the wealthy and powerful). From him I learned about agriculture policy and education policy and foreign relations. And I learned about the fight for social and economic justice. This book is, in large part, Sen. Wellstone's policy vision focused on achieving that social and economic justice.Senator Wellstone, sir, thank you.

Amazing insight into the world of the Senate
This book is not only insightful into what it takes to become and stay a Senator, Wellstone gives incredible insight into how legislation is passed. All of the issues that he discusses in this book are still alive in today's political setting. Most of what he says in this book has come to fruition, at least partially. Wellstone was an amazing man and he is surely missed in the world today.

Politically Refreshing
It is nice to know that some decency still exists among all of the greed and power in Washington. Paul Wellstone has made it a priority to fight for those who can't afford to hire a lobbyist. This book demonstrates his uphill fight against the money and the power brokers in DC. Even if you disagree with Wellstone politically, it would be difficult not to welcome his honest and sincere attitude towards the process. This is a must read for any progressive.
