Victorinox Swiss Army Men's I.N.O.X. Pro Diver Watch

Back to basics... but done well.Initial impressions...Im no watch guru but I know what I like. I swear by my old issued Army watch... did what it said on the tin.Spent the last 2 years being sucked in by the digital tsunami of smart watches. Great for fitness activities but over powering and poor battery life had me searching for a quality military style watch.I settled on Victorinox and my initial impressions are, this is a quality, solid no nonsense timepiece that feels and looks great on the wrist. A striking face with chiseled looks with a great touch of adding a removable face 'bump' to protect the finish should you need it.Nice clear face that is readable in the dark giving a good glow... massively improved if you hit it with white light first.Great colour too, was going standard black but the maroon looks great and gives it some character.Will update as time goes but with the current deals on this model I'd recommend it any day if you're looking to go back to basics but with military style!

La caja:Hay que destacar que este diver, con un diámetro de 45mm es 2mm más grande que sus primos los INOX estándar, así que no sólo estás obteniendo un bisel de inmersión y una esfera de Submariner, sino de entrada un monstruo más grande.La caja es un tremendo bloque de acero maquinado. Sin embargo, esta masiva presencia se compensa porque está bellamente esculpida. Así es, esta caja se compone sólamente de suaves líneas curvas, con una superficie impecablemente terminada en un fino cepillado que la deja suavemente satinada.La corona más que protegida se percibe como empotrada casi totalmente en una proyección de la caja, perfectamente integrada al diseño. Dicha corona esta roscada y firmada, es bastante grande y es muy fàcil de girar.Eso sí, debido a su protección extrema, es muy difícil extraerla si traes el reloj puesto.El bisel:Es el elemento que en mi opinión define la personalidad de este reloj, pues tiene un estilo visual muy singular y atractivo, con un diseño que resulta inusual para un diver.Aunque es circular, está facetado de manera que se lee visualmente como un hexágono. Es algo así como si tomáramos un bisel de un Omega Seamaster y lo redujéramos a sólo 6 facetas inclinadas.Las caras inclinadas son las únicas áreas pulidas del reloj, y ayudan a generar esa lectura inequívoca de hexágono. Estas caras reciben también los números presentes en el bisel, dándole un caracter único.Todas las marcas estan en bajorrelieve, y los números y las marcas de 5 minutos están resaltadas en negro.En cuanto a la operación, a pesar del reducido facetado el bisel es bastante fácil de girar, con clicks muy satisfactorios.La esfera:Es de un color amarillo primario totalmente mate, con índices aplicados y en estilo Submariner. El índice de las 12 es el logo del fabricante.Yo siempre me había resistido a tener un diver con esfera de color llamativo, pero en este caso, al entrar en combinación con el singular diseño y los impecables terminados, hace que este diver se vea sexy ademas de refinado.Tiene un disco horario con marcas de segundos y números de hora militar en rojo. Este disco es muy profundo con un bisel que llega justo a la mitad de los índices horarios, invadiéndolos, de manera que cada índice tiene un alvéolo resacado que lo recibe en el disco.La ventana de la fecha es muy discreta a las 4:30Las manecillas a primera vista son de estilo bastón, pero en realidad más bien son de un estilo sui generis que pudiéramos llamar "obelisco truncado". El segundero es rojo, de estilo lollipop con lume... ah, y sí pega preciso en las marcas de segundos.El lume es superluminova verde, excepto la manecilla de minutos y el pip del bisel que son de color azul.El brazalete:De 22mm, es de estilo H-link con eslabones sólidos, incluyendo endlinks, con eslabones de ajuste de media longitud estilo Oyster y tres puntos de ajuste fino en el broche. Este último es de acero maquinado, con cierre de seguridad y además cuenta con extensión para el wetsuit.Algunos lo critican por ser un brazalete de estilo tradicional y no el supercool brazalete de broche plano que traen algunos INOX estándar, pero evidentemente al ser un diver, el broche de seguridad y la extensión son un requisito.Con el brazalete correctamente ajustado el reloj es muy cómodo, pero eso sí, debido a su peso no te deja olvidarte que lo traes puesto.Como plus: Cristal zafiro con recubrimiento antirreflejante, movimiento de cuarzo Ronda caliber 715, indicador de fin de vida de la batería (el segundero "tartamudea"), cumple estándar ISO 6425, el bumper de silicón transparente incluido, aunque hace que parezca una especie de Swatch mutante, es una considerable mejora al horrendo bumper incluido con los INOX estándar.Lo negativo (sort of)El disco horario tiene un nivel adicional de marcas que dividen cada segundo en tres partes y que evidentemente sólo tienen una intención "decorativa", pues no tienen función práctica alguna. Yo la verdad hubiera preferido los números de la hora militar más grandes que estas inútiles marcas.La medida lug-to-lug son unos tremendos 55 cm, y las asas prácticamente no se curvan. La línea de los pernos queda de hecho ligeramente arriba de la tapa trasera, así que tenemos una base de este reloj recta como una tabla. Los endlinks del brazalete afortunadamente permiten a éste girar mas de 90 grados, lo cual facilita que abrace estrechamente tu muñeca.A mí me gusta usarlo alto y ajustado, arriba del huesito, de manera que la corona no se clave en la mano y que la caja no tenga manera de girar. El peso bestial de este reloj (230g... ¡casi un cuarto de kilo!) hace indispensable usarlo ajustado, si no, seguro acabará siempre bajo la muñeca.El brazalete sin duda esta pensado para muñecas robustas. Mi medida es 7in y tuve que quitarle TODOS los eslabones de ajuste.Por lo anterior, en mi opinión este modelo está fuera de discusión para muñecas delgadas.En resumen:El marketing de este reloj enfatiza sus cualidades de resistencia al trato extremo, pero me cuesta imaginar el someter una pieza tan finamente terminada a semejante trato. Tal vez ahí es donde decides sacar el bumper del cajón.En todo caso si necesitas algo para uso severo y te late el bisel poligonal, ahí está el célebre "G-ShOaK" analógico con su bisel octagonal.Yo la verdad compré este INOX más bien por sus cualidades de diseño: una verdadera escultura geométrica en acero inoxidable.

Muy resistente y con un diseño magnífico. Una caja de acero de gran calidad, correa ídem, muy preciso… me encantan los relojes y los colecciono, éste me gustaba mucho pero la sorpresa es que al recibirlo supero bastante mis expectativas que eran bastante altas.

Una combinación perfecta entre durabilidad y elegancia es este reloj, lo puedes llevar a donde sea, soporta cualquier entorno en el que está, a pesar de que las correas de goma son un poco bruscas no le quita mérito al reloj en general, máxime que las mismas se pueden cambiar por las del paracord, para más confort y darle un estilo diferente al reloj. lo recomiendo al 100%

War Machine!

I originally purchased the INOX from an authorized dealer in Edmonton. I noticed after my purchase that the hour and minute hands are slightly out of alignment such that when the minute hand reaches 12, the hour hand is slightly behind the hour marker it is supposed to be on. I am aware that it is common for seconds hand to be sloppy but the the hour/minute hand alignment was a major disappointment.I thought it might've been an issue with that particular sample from the dealer so I purchased another one here. Same issue. The hour hand is behind. Again.Needless to say I will be returning the Amazon purchase and will seek warranty service on my AD purchased model. Considering the rest of the watch is so well done, the hands are a major-league fail. Another minor-league fail was that Amazon sent me the rubber strap version instead of the steel bracelet version that I originally purchased but I'm not hugely concerned about this thanks to Amazon's great refund policy.Despite the disappointment of that issue, let's take a look at the rest of the watch:The case is extremely solid and well made. The steel is thick and yells "Quality" in your face. Although the case is beefy, it isn't overly large and the 43mm is a very reasonable size for a watch of this calibre. Regarding that monobloc construction claim, I can see that the centre hexagonal piece of the watch is cylindrically screwed into the outer metal frame, effectively making it a non-monobloc case. A tiny bit of marketing rubbish but given the high-quality of the case overall I'm not complaining. One noticeable feature of the case is the oversized crown guards. I am especially fond of this design because it makes crown damages pretty much impossible without being overly bulky.The dial of the watch is also well-designed. The date window placement is up to personal taste but I find it pleasing. The date change is also quite smooth, starting at about 11:20 and ending at 12:15. This is a very acceptable timeframe and is far better than some other quartz watches around the same price range. The crystal feels solid at 2mm thick. The hands are also very legible since they have a high mirror polish and reflect light easily.The lume, on the other hand, is abysmal for a watch priced circa $500. Victorinox claims that it used SuperLuminova (C3? C5? C1?) but after observing both my samples I don't think that's true. The lume is somewhat below average compared to other similar watches and a typical Seiko diver shines much brighter/longer than this piece of work.The bracelet of the INOX is quite unique in that it detaches like a regular two-piece strap. The benefit of this is that the buckle mechanism is very strong yet thin, making it very comfortable to wear. The downside is that when unlocking the bracelet, it is difficult to hold onto the bracelet if your hands are slippery. Then again, if you drop the watch (I did) you can rest easy knowing that the INOX will always live to die another day. The overall fit/finish of the bracelet is quite good without any rough or sharp edges. All links including the end links are solid steel. I wish they used a stronger spring bar mechanism such as a screw-in steel rod to further enhance the strength. There is a YouTube video of a guy attaching the INOX to his harness while being lifted up by a helicopter. With the flimsy stock springbars, I'm not inclined to try that stunt myself.I did get a chance to look at the rubber strap version since Amazon shipped me the wrong model and to my pleasant surprise that strap was extremely good. While it's nothing fancy, the strap does perform its intended purpose much better than the average strap. The rubber that was used is of very high quality and flexes much better than other similar straps such as the Seiko resin straps for their divers. Skin breathing is also acceptable when the rubber strap is worn.Final thoughts: great watch, great construction, great concept, bad quality control on this one specific issue. If they can get the hand alignment thing solved then this will be a 5-star review.
