Advanced Soap Making: Removing the Mystery

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It has all the information needed for soap making in one book. It is very appropriate for beginners except that there are no pictures to reference. Put my prior research using YouTube videos from soap queen tv etc. made it easy for me to follow.This book is a must have once interested in soap making. It includes a Resource Directory so you can get all your supplies from reputable suppliers; I absolutely love that. Each chapter is methodical and very simple to follow. The chapter on calculating your soap recipe is very useful too. Very clear explanation for calculating formulas by hand and for using online lye calculators. Excellent job authors Mary and Alyssa.

This book is fine for anyone that has some beginning soapmaking under their belt. I would have named this book Intermediate Soap Making, as most of the info seems to be just a little beyond the beginner. Many subjects are talked about throughout the book, from goat's milk to liquid substitutions to additives. It does not go into any one subject matter with great detail. However, I would not discourage a soapmaker from getting this book, as much of the information would lead to a good reference to keep handy on your shelf. I think it is OK for most soapmakers as a reference.

I'm an advanced soap-maker, and my husband gave me this book as a gift. While it does contain lots of basic, helpful information, I was expecting more in the way of color tutorials. The authors explained how to make various swirls, etc, but if I didn't already know how to do them, I would have been confused. Pictures would have been VERY helpful.

I think you'll be pleased with the book. I have been furiously studying all things soap now since I went to a class this past October. I've read several books and I have to say the organization of information in this book is the best I've found yet. With this I have come up with a few of my own recipes with a clear understanding of why I'm doing it. I am a very new soaper, and I can see referring to it over and over as I move on in the soaping world.

This book is an all around general information text for cold process soap making for the intermediate soap maker. It's okay for reference. No photos at all.

This is the next book to buy after you have gone past the beginner stage of soap making. Lots of information, including chapters on incorporating natural colorants and herbs in your soaps, comprehensive information on oils and fats, and how to make soap using room temperature cold process and thermal heat transfer. I returned "Essential soapmaking" by the same authors, but absolutely love this book despite the lack of photos. If you are into making hot process soaps, this is not the book for you. If you are into making swirls and making pretty looking soaps, you are better off buying "Soap crafting" by Anne Marie Faiola.

Good book. Not SO advanced how I was expected, but it's ok

I bought this book because I wanted to learn how to make my own soap recipes, and better understand the chemistry and various components that go into soap making. All of the other soap books I've read were heavy on pretty pictures, but light on real info beyond the recipes themselves. Don't be discouraged by the lack of photos. I devoured this book in one sitting and am confident it will be a great reference I'll go back to again and again.

This book took me to the next level in cold process soap making, which was to formulate my own recipes. The book has just the right amount of detail. The sample recipes are great too.
