The 1971 War : An Illustrated History

A nice comprehensive book
DK usually deals with western subjects when it comes to warfare. So this book comes as a surprise. No doubt this was intended to be released on the 50th anniversary of the 1971 war but perhaps the Covid wave delayed it. The contributing editors are all from solid historical backgrounds. This is an excellent all-round look at the operations of the 1971 war. Both the eastern and western sector operations of the three services are covered fairly well. A worthy addition to anyone's library and captures the essential operations of the 1971 war.

Informative but not definitive
This is a very apt addition from the DK India stable - and follows a similar layout as other DK books with great pictures , maps and text - edited by experts like the renowned historian Chinna and U P THAPLIYAL who had also penned the unofficial 71 war history per the declassified MoD records. There are some great first person accounts , unseen images from the archives and potted information of the units involved and battle honours - while not being the definitive book on the subject - its very informative and a great addition esp to those trying to learn about this decisive Indian victory but do not have the time to read the 71 war tomes .DK India is to be complimented for this release and younger readers will definitely benefit from this.
