Having played the original a few times, and now this outstanding updated version, it really reflects the reality of modern geopolitical warfare. There are two games going on at once. The Communists face a daunting challenge of hardly being able to stand up to US and Free World firepower tactically if the US player is halfway competent. However, the US/FW player faces an equally daunting task of managing to fight a long war on as shoestring a budget as possible to keep US commitment to a minimum, unlike what occurred in history in order to prevent US morale from collapsing, as it did. It is possible for either side to win the war given competent and committed game play by the opponents, but it requires a combination of military and political factors to do so. The ARVN can't win the war on their own, but neither can the Communists against the US employing modern warfare techniques of mobility and firepower against them. It comes down to the long game of hearts and minds, like it always was from the very start historically, and this game nails it so exceptionally well.

The great map supports the attractive units pieces, and is strongly supported by the best rule booklet ever produced. Th e system is intricate but playable. The campaign game and the shorter scenarios are filled with decisions, choices, and actions. This simulation is historically accurate and playable. All history/simulation games should use this as a guide line to produce games. Worth the price and time to play. No Vietnam War game comes close to the quality in pieces or game system.
