Grind an edge on it and whack some zombies.
I read some reviews about the reported heft of this thing and thought that it sure must be hyperbole, but seriously this sucker is stout. You can easily grind an edge on it and co-star in an episode of a weekly zombie-smashing television show. Use it for chopping firewood? Not for long, but definitely more than capable of pruning some fig and pomegranate trees.I read a lot of reviews complaining about poor welds, and the possibility or harboring microbial nastiness. If you are using this as a mash paddle, it DOESN'T MATTER! You are going to boil your wort anyways which will kill off anything that could possibly be harboring in a poor weld on your paddle. If you are using it to stir your wort in the boil kettle, which is exactly why I wanted this 48" long monster, to get my hands away from the steam of my 12 gallon (pre-boil volume) in a 1/4-Barrel Keggle, again it doesn't matter, because it is boiling. Just as you sanitize your wort chiller by dropping it in the kettle for 10 minutes before you start chilling your wort. That being said, I appreciate (and will pay extra for) a good clean weld and the welds were as clean and as smooth as any sanitary weld I have seen done in stainless steel.

Excellent Brew Paddle
I bought this to stir my mash and boil when brewing beer. Lived with a long plastic spoon until I switched to all grain brewing. For those that don't brew, its like stiring a 8 gal batch of oatmeal. I looked at other options. The plastic ones seemed too flimsy or more expensive and I wasn't sure if the wooden ones would last. This one turned out to be perfect. Now I can stir without fear of snapping off the spoon and it doesn't get hot. Well worth the <$20.

beautiful, easy to clean
I picked this thing up as a mash paddle, the 48 incher. It looks beautiful, all that gleaming stainless. It's very easy to clean. My god is it long, I hadn't considered, I could stir a 55 gallon drum with this thing. It's a bit cumbersome to stow this thing between stirs at this size, balancing it on the rim of my 16 gallon pot doesn't always work. I suppose I need a broom holder or something.

Sturdy, great mash paddle!
I've brewed more than 5 10-gallon batches since getting this behemoth, and I will absolutely vouch for it. Others posted about chopping wood or beheading zombies, and they aren't really exaggerating. The welds have been done much better than previous reviews stated, and I've found no pitting, chipping wear or tear that would let little beasties hide. So, in short, yes. I would recommend that anyone purchasing this for homebrewing just go ahead and do it. It's worth more than you'll pay.

makes stiring a keggle easier
i use it for making beer, really allows me to fully stir up my wort and keeps my hands a safe distance from the boiling liquid. I plan to drill some holes into it so there isn't so much resistance.

Rusted before using it
This is not Stainless Steel. A week after I bought it there was surface rust on the paddle where the metal was sanded and smoothed.I was going to use this for beer brewing but there is no way I would be putting a rusted paddle in my wort. Sending this back ASAP.
