The Importance of Nietzsche (Sino-American-German Documentary)

I recently became interested in Nietzsche, and after studying an introductory book, came across these 10 essays by Eric Heller on different aspects of the philosopher and his works. If you are at all interested in Nietzsche, I would say this book is a must read, BUT not until you have some familiarity with the subject. These essays cover ways in which Nietzsche was affected by other thinkers, philosophers etc, and the affect that he had on them. Amongst the essays are ones that deal with his relationships (both emotionally and intellectually) and across time with Schopenauer, Wagner (tortured indeed!) Burkhardt, Goethe, Rilke, and Wittgenstein. It is inspiring to read what someone has to say who both really knows his subject inside out, and is a really first class thinker in his own right. I will have to read this book again at some point when I am better prepared - but those who are autodidacts like me will understand where I am with this book right now and how that in no way acts as a disincentive in coming forward to sing its praises!

A beautiful book

This offers solid elucidation of Nietzsche, and his thinking across several periods and in relationship with other thinkers.

Heller is brilliant. For those interested in Nietzdche this is not to be missed.
