The miner's lamp is a great quality gift, my sister loved it, as it's a beautuful and well made lantern.

And it functions. Add lamp oil to tank, light wick & voila, instant ambient light. This is a well-made, on the heavy side, all brass lantern. The globe is glass (go figure) and the rest is that shiny brass stuff. Really cool, looks great (when shiny) & throws some serious light. Heat too, so watch it.Oh, and that history part? Yes, miners really did use lamps just like these, probably just not this one.

This lantern came exactly as described, is made of solid brass and operates very well. The burner reservoir is a single assembly with no seams (i.e. it shouldn't ever leak from the bottom), and the thumb screws securely hold it in place in the globe fixture. The wick is good quality and quickly brought up the oil, the burner is snug and the lamp operates cleanly. All around great reproduction.

No lever for a window or whole in the brass for ease of match entry I can live with. What I did find a disappointment is the fact that the chimney is held on the base by two thumb screws. There is no lip to catch the bolts if one screw was to backout a little. That forces a conscientious person to hold it from the bottom at all times. Makes for a great looking mantle piece but I'd be very cautious for practical applications i.e. moving around a home in dim light scenario with it. A small change could make this a 5 star item.
