I bought this item as I unexpectedly ended up hand rearing one of my baby pigeons, and decided that going forward I wasn't going to get caught out without a proper set up. A box & basket is fine as a one off, but if you keep any birds that raise young, it pays to have something in reserve for if you have to intervene & raise any yourself.Delivery took forever & was literally 1 day off being refundable. I hadn't realised when I ordered it was coming from the other side of the world, otherwise I perhaps wouldn't have bothered.I actually didn't expect it to be flat packed & self assemble, so when it did turn up, initially I was a bit confused at the relativley small package that arrived via Royal Mail.As it happens, its easy enough to put together, but the instructions are useless. Not only are the pictures illegible due to poor quaity printing/copying, but because the instructions are written in kanji, it meant I was pretty much going alone on this.Thankfully it was very logical to put together, but because it is quite staticy, I found everything wanted to stick to it whilst I was trying to work on it.It is only made of soft wood, probably ply, so don't over tighten the screws otherwise you will damage this.It marks very easy, so be careful.It comes with way more screws than you would ever need, so don't worry when you have loads left over.I havent tried the heater/light as yet since the plug was not UK, so when I come to use it, I will need to change it out & hope it actually works.Once it was constructed, which took me just under half an hour, it looks ok for the job. It's compact & has a lid to keep baby birds in & other things cats out. It came with a mini dustpan & brush that looks like a kids toy - Not sure how much use that will actually be but it is a cute idea.It has carry handles and is not very heavy. It would be ideal for raising 1 or 2 pigeons or similar sized chicks & would probably be useable up until the point they start trying to fly at around 5 weeks. At that point they would be ready to transfer to a larger enclosure anyway as they can sustain their own body heat etc. so this item would no longer be needed.I'm giving this 3 stars, because firstly I think the actual price for the item is very high. It's only cheap wood so really I think its over priced for what it is. From the pictures I thought it was going to be made of some sort of plastic. Expensive for cheap, easily marked/dented wood.Also the delivery time meant that despite me ordering this when my squab was only 2 days old, it still hadn't arrived by the time he was fully fledged at 5 weeks old, so this is something you'd have to order in advance as you would not get it in time for an emergency situation.Now i've got it i'll keep it, but unless you are going to be raising chicks fairly regular, it's perhaps worth considering if its worth the money & wait time.
