Silent Witnesses: A Dark Victorian Crime Novel (Arlington & McCurley Mysteries Book 1)

This author is a bit dark. I like the strength of the main character, a strong female lead. You have to be able to read about the rough edges of society. I’ve read the entire series.

“Silent Witnesses” The fifth book in the Anna Kronberg series is just as mesmerizing and excellently written as all of A. Wendeberg’s stories. Her medical, criminal and recreation of, in this case, Boston in the late 19th century would be worthy of Mr. Sherlock Holmes himself.“Silent Witnesses” finds our heroine and her young daughter living and working in the Boston area. A serial murderer has started killing young women and leaving their bodies near railroad tracks. Anna is convinced Moran has finally caught up to her and is going to carry out Anna’s death and the kidnapping of her almost 3-year-old daughter.“Silent Witnesses”, once started, is difficult to put down. It is an excellent read to take your mind off what’s going on in the world today. While it’s not necessary to read the previous books in the series, it makes it more entertaining and helps understand the backstory of Anna, Sherlock, Moriarty, Moran, et.al. Enjoy.

Anna Kronberg has left Europe and returned to Boston. She is still practicing medicine but no longer needs to dress as a man. But as the fear of being hunted remains, she continues to be drawn into helping solve brutal murders. While I did not find her new partner as engaging as Holmes I will reserve my judgement for now. Maybe his character will develop more in the next book.

Yes! I love this book and all the books by this author. I’m now reading the next book in the series. All have a strong female character and this is no exception. Mary/Olivia is a wonderful complex character. Her past is tragic but she overcomes and I love her as she shows us her detective side.

It is important to note that this is part of a series. It reads well as a stand alone book but some of the subtle plot items are better appreciated if you read the excellent books that preceded this one. I have read them all and really enjoyed this one! The author is a doctorial level scientist andknows how to research to ensure that the details are accurate to the time of the vile Victorians.

Anna is being stalked, or so she worries . Young women are being murdered . A suspicious police detective starts hounding her.

A very fine addition to the Anna Kronberg saga. This is a character that has held my interest over the entire series. Well written and most enjoyable. I like the new characters that are introduced in this book.

the set up, the new characters, awesome. seriously, the freaks and inspector, fabulous. this mystery finished suddenly. lots of trying to put pieces together and then BLAM! still not sure who the murder was in relation to anna. felt like a set up book. of course, i love the characters so i am on to the next book already.

I am really enjoying this series with its various characters.
