Complete history of Wake Island including the battle
I really looked forward to reading The Battle of Wake Island: The History of the Japanese Invasion Launched in Conjunction with the Attack on Pearl Harbor and was not disappointed. The book describes the history of Wake Island from when it was first discovered, the first captain to give it a name through the surrender of Japan. The defenders were still trying to prepare the island for invasion by the Japanese when World War II started for the Americans. I found the description of the various personalities involved in the battle or attempted relief to be quite interesting. One interesting question is did the American defenders of the island surrender too soon? This book is a great addition to the history of World War II, the book is concise and a very good read.

Do not buy, book is poorly written 4.0 font. not many pages, worst book I have read on Wake Island
Do not purchase, not worth the price or effort. My father was on Wake Island and a prisoner of war. I have read every book I can find on the subject. This is the worst book I have purchased.

Great details
I only knew Wake Island as another battle of WWII. This book gave life to the sacrifices of all those brave souls who fought there. As a boy of about six in 1953, I remember the plane trip home from Japan and the stop to refuel at Wake Island . Until I read this book I only knew of the tiny speck of an island and the extreme spiral of the plane required to decend down to land. I wish there were more photos to show the details, but it was a good, albeit brief, read.

Few pages and micro print
This book has some interesting information but the print is so tiny it was very difficult to read - though there is plenty of unused space on each page. I don't understand why the publisher didn't increase the font size. Also, the book only has about 40 pages so it doesn't contain near as much information as it could/should have.

Good book.
We tend to overlook Wake because of Pearl Harbor and the Philippines. There were war heroes.

This is a gripping account of the heroism the small contingent of Marines showed in defending Wake Island against Japan way out in the Pacific in December 1941. As has happened all too often in history, commanding officers may have actually snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, but either way, it's an incredible story.
