Great history!
I bought this book expecting to learn more about the origins of the FBI. I got a lot more than that. Most of the book is a great, well told, history of Federal law enforcement(or lack thereof) in the early history of the USA. The book actually ends with the Bureau of Investigation which later became officially known as the Federal Bureau of Investigation. As the author states in his Foreward, there are plenty of books on the actual history of the FBI. This book gives us the "why" and "how" it came to be and how it really was born out of a political dispute when Theodore Roosevelt was near the end of his Presidency. The author is well organized in his presentation and carefully leads the reader through the history and connects it all together very well. Great history and a great read.

EXCELLENT HISTORY BOOK
Author provides excellent background information as well as confirming documentation. It seems that in this day and age there is little information provided on actual history. This author provides context to what actually occurred in the development of our FBI. This is a very interesting analysis of the "Birth of the FBI", and appropriate to analysis of our current political climate.

Good book with aggravating typos
Just wondering how books like this get to print with so many typos.

Two Stars
I found the book to be very difficult to read with quite a few typos. There were some interesting facts, but all in all, the book was a disappointment.

Surprising facts about how the FBI was formed
Well researched and well written. Book has many excellent sketches of US presidents and others. Good book to buy if you are in law enforcement ( I’m not; I just read a variety of books - part of my continuing education outside of electronics).
