This is a good quality rotary grater and it works fine, is easy to clean and easy to use. I use it for parmesan cheese, don't know what else people use it for. The little round cap lets you grate some cheese and not have to put it on all at once. I lost the handle for my old one and I missed it! I had to get another one. It's just so much easier to grate the cheese you need for dinner without hauling out a large grater. Plus you can store what's left in the fridge until next time. It's easy to take apart and put in the dishwasher. All in all, just what you'd expect from OXO

I was debating between buying this one and the comparable Zyliss cheese grater. Both are good brands that make solid products. But I chose OXO, because of price, $19.95 vs $24.95. Still at almost $20 I think it should cost $10. The other reason is the "plunger" has silicone edges, and comes with a silicone cap to go over the grater drum to store cheese until next use. I like using this style over a micro grater when I grate cheese that I have frozen. They tend to crumble more while using a micro grater, and these rotary types capture the crumbs and grate them as well.

I would love a good, metal unit. Preferably stainless steel or aircraft aluminum. But it's not worth a couple hundred bucks. For a plastic cheese grater, this is awesome. The cover for the barrel unit, that lets you grate a full barrel of cheese and dump it into something when it's full or just stick it back in the fridge, is super handy.That said, people complain about cheese sticking to the internals. This is NOT meant for soft cheeses. It's meant for hard cheese like Parmesan. I don't even do Asiago (adolescent parm) in it, although I probably could. But softer cheese? No. Just. No. Use a regular grater.

I give this grater high marks for ease of use and especially the ability to cap it off to save the cheese in the grater for short-term storage in the refrigerator. That's very innovative and better than a baggie, etc.However, I prefer a grater that opens up with removable cylinder for ease of cleaning. Also it would be nice to replace the grater with a different gauge option for courser or finer grating. In other words, I miss my old grater! But, alas, this one is quite adequate and the storage is a big plus so I can adjust.

This is a decent rotary grater for hard cheeses. Pre-grated cheeses often include corn starch to avoid sticking, so I like to grate my own. I have used this grater for Parmesan and Gruyère and it works smoothly. I think a softer cheese like cheddar might end up being a mess.The cut is relatively fine, and there is only one barrel, so if you want something with a larger diameter cut, you won’t like this one. The non slip grip is nice, but the silicone gasket does make it harder to depress the handle while grating, so for someone with arthritis this might not be ideal.There are no instructions in the package about washing or disassembling. To remove the metal barrel for washing you unscrew the crank counterclockwise and slide the metal barrel out. I washed the entire grater on the upper rack of my dishwasher, and the white plastic uniformly turned a very pale shade of pink (except for the plastic around the metal barrel). There was nothing else in the dishwasher besides white ceramic plates, water glasses and stainless silverware - so that is strange. Something to do with the heat perhaps?I am giving it three stars because I think including a second barrel with a larger diameter cut would be appropriate for the $20 price tag, and I am a little concerned that it changed color in the dishwasher. I anticipate using it so I will keep it, but I would not buy it a second time.

I love that the whole mechanism comes apart to clean each piece of the grater. Comes with a cap to shred and store the shredded cheese (just a small amount of cheese will fit, but still convenient).

I’ve been using this OXO cheese grater for close to 20 years, and honestly, I don’t think there’s another one in this style that even comes close. It grates beautifully, and one of my favorite things about it is how it holds the extra cheese inside. It makes it so simple to pop the whole thing in the fridge and already have cheese ready to go the next time I need it.Over the years I’ve had to buy two of them — the handle eventually broke — and I just ordered another one now. Even with that, it’s strong, it feels good in the hand, and it works the way it’s supposed to every single time. It’s just a reliable, well-designed tool.

AWFUL. If I could give it zero stars, I would.It is VERY awkward and difficult to use, and the cheese cakes up inside the rotating cylinder and has to be scooped out with a knife or something. If you have any arthritis in your hands at all, DON'T buy it. Even my husband thought it sucked. I threw it in the trash.

Love this grater! Stays in my fridge and stores my Parmesan for when I need it.

This OXO cheese grater has truly earned its spot in our kitchen. We bought one more than eight years ago, and it’s still going strong—which is more than I can say for a lot of kitchen gadgets. It handles both hard and soft cheeses smoothly, and the clever little cap at the end gives you options: use it to pre-grate and store, or remove it to grate directly onto your dish. Super functional!You do need to cut your cheese to fit, but it’s a small price to pay for how well this works. It’s incredibly easy to clean—every part comes apart and pops into the top rack of the dishwasher without fuss. We loved it so much, we got one for my parents too, after several of their old graters gave out. This one just…doesn’t.Durable, reliable, and thoughtfully designed—OXO nailed it.
