A Fun Way to Grow Miniature Trees
I picked up a few of these kits as Christmas presents, and they’ve been a hit. Each box comes with everything needed to get started, from seeds to helpful instructions. I was worried it might be too complex, but it’s actually beginner-friendly. The recipients love having a hands-on gardening project that feels special and different from typical houseplants. Watching the seeds sprout and grow into miniature trees is so satisfying, and it adds a calm, creative element to any space. If you’re looking for a neat gift for friends or family who enjoy gardening—or want to try something new—this kit is a solid choice.

Seeds are duds but customer service is great
Update-customer service is great and issued a refund. I will update the review again once I try the new kit.3 seeds out of entire kit have germinated and we planted over 20 seeds over 3 months ago. The link to contact support goes to a non existent website…followed instruction specifics. Very disappointing gift for my husband. To put it in perspective we have over 80 houseplants so these seeds were duds and not due to operator error. If customer support actually sees this it’d be nice to be sent some viable seeds.

A Good Starter Kit- (Beginner to Intermediate Plant/Bonsai Grower)
The media could not be loaded. First off I should say that I love the kit so far. I’m far from a seasoned bonsai Grower, but I have grown orchids for quite a few years. I didn’t really do my research prior to purchasing the kit- instead I fell In love with the possibility of having a tree like they have in their pictures, of my very own.I live in New England and our climate isn’t perfect let’s say haha. So managing to care for some of them will be harder than others simply because of The changing seasons and temperatures. That being said I have done my homework on each of these trees and I think that so long as anyone who buys this kit does the same thing they’ll have no problem growing.I decided to go a slightly different route in regards to germination of the seeds. I did allow them to soak in water for about 20-22hrs, but some of the seeds need to be further prepared due to the conditions that the seeds typically have to exp to germinate effectively. Thus I have placed each individual seed in a Self watering seed starting tray with a humidity cover so thay I can better watch and manage each seedling as they grow. Eventually I will transfer the strongest 4 into the plantable pots for bulking up.While I haven't given 5 stars for the sub categories, overall I think this is a 5 star product due to the ease I have had growing my seeds so far, and the ability to contact Planters Choice Via What’s App. They respond very quickly and try to help with whatever your questions are.Update- Aug 3, 2020Sadly I was unable to get more then 1 blue Jacaranda or any Norway spruce to germinate my first time around. I reached out to Planters Choice via What’s App and they quickly sent out a second set of seeds. I have those sewn but as of yet nothing has come up.From my first kit however I got 2 flame tees and 3 Rocky Mountain pines. The strong winds from Tropical Storm Isaias snapped one of my pines down but so far the last two are doing great and I have a few more coming up from the 2nd set of seeds. I also got a second Jacaranda sprout within a week of planting the second set of seeds but idk that any will take. The attached is a video of how they are doing now.

Patience is key and lots of research
I’ll try to update when I have a more bonsái looking tree but for now I’ll share my experience so far. The sowing of the seeds is pretty straight forward however I do think the royal seed needs more info. Within the first week I saw the Rocky Mountain pine sprout then the blue j seeds sprouted and 3 weeks passed and the other two nothing. I had done a lot of research through out this time and decided I’d try to help my other two seeds to sprout. I read that the royal seeds can be hard for sprouts to sprout because of its tough skin and need to be scored to help the sprout push it’s way out. So I took them all out found one was already sprouting and had an inch of root already grown but the seed skin was to heavy for it to push it up so I fixed that one and scored the rest and reburied them laying flat not to deep in soil and waited. One week later I had two new sprouts for a total of 3. The others were duds. I tried helping the Norway spruce but they are nowhere to be found in the soil I didn’t sow them deep I followed instructions did some more research on top of what the booklet info had but it seems like all the Norway spruce seeds were duds. Which sucks but 3/4 isn’t so bad. The blue and rocky so easily sprouted it was exciting to see. The royal just needed a little extra help but also exciting. It actually feels therapeutic to troubleshoot the trees and to check on them daily make sure they are fine gently fix them or move them when necessary. I bought a little sun light strip and they are currently located indoors on an empty shelf with the sun light strip above them on the lowest setting for 12 hrs a day I don’t water them to often because they aren’t in proper pots. Overall good deal I don’t think the kit is expensive for what you get.Moving on to the consOnly 3/4 seeds sproutedNorway spruce never germinated and they seem to have disappeared. The booklet has very little helpful info your better off going on google and YouTube. The coco soil stuff keeps growing some type of mold fuzz on top like white fuzz sometimes turning into bluish greenish fuzz if you leave it. I’m not overwatering them I let the soil start to dry before even watering them again and I don’t give them a lot of water when I do.The burlap style pot isn’t very good for this use. It isn’t leaking fluid but I can feel the outside of it is moist more so on the bottom. The burlap pots don’t offer good drainage which is very much needed for these trees. While pretty I would have much preferred some cheap plastic pots with drainage at the bottom. My guess is maybe that’s why the fuzz starts to grow. Maybe it has to do with the coco I’m not sure. I think they could probably change out the types of pots for cheap plastic drainage friendly ones.Overall tho not bad for the price I did get it with a coupon I think it was 12-15 in total. I will not however give it 4-5 stars because of the dud seeds and the fuzz that myself and others have experienced growing on the top of their soil and because of the non conducive pot as well as the booklet they count as an add on bonus that lacks info on bonsai practice and the seeds and even the basics on how and when to cut your tree sprout to start the bonsai process because if you just plant this and keep repotting this eventually you’ll have a normal sized tree thinking it’s somehow supposed to stay small and be a cool mini tree because you were sold bonsai tree seeds. Anyways I hope this info helps I’ll update pictures whenever I remember to on this review.
