Everything you need to know. (Some of the other reviews are misleading.)
First off, the MAIN reason I'm giving this 5 stars, is because the market for this is incredibly small. This was one of only 3 "smart" devices I found for these kind of locks. The other 2, one is this, but with a fingerprint sensor instead of a card reader (G-Slide I believe it's called, but even putting the exact name in, it doesn't come up for me on Amazon even though they have it.). The other is buying a modified janky looking lock from Etsy made to work with the August smart lock. Definitely more functional, but an uncomfortable look in my opinion.Okay, so right out the gate, the book says you should not use master mode. Ignore that, definitely use it as this mode lets you set multiple user pins. (The review that said you can't obviously did not read everything.).As for the beeping sound someone mentioned: The panel has a wire that connects to the circuit board inside the lock. When that wire is not connected (You have to plug it in the first time.) then, putting batteries in it will cause an alarm to go off. This seems to me to be an anti-theft measure so you know when someone is stealing your pin pad or trying to break in.As for the key cards, you do not have to scan them all at once. They are seemingly hard to find and relatively expensive most places. I manage to find 2 for $20 on eBay, but it was only the 1 item, not a regular seller. User mode vs master mode may make a difference, but definitively in master mode, you can add more cards without needing the old ones. HOWEVER, you do have to assign the card to a 2-digit user ID. So the person may have just been overwriting ID 01 instead of putting multiples (I'll explain more later).Okay, so. You open the box, connect the wire to the device, put in the batteries (before installing it into the wall). For the EVERYTHING you will do to program it, you will be pressing a ® symbol on the lock itself. To access it, you have to open the cover where the batteries go, and on the bottom left is a little black button.Programming works like this for EVERY setting:Note* only eligible number selections will be shown.1. Touch pad to bring up pin pad2. Enter master pin (Or your pin if not in master mode)3. Press ®4. Press a number (1 is master pin, 2 is user pins, 3 is key cards, 6 is lock settings etc)5. Press #Note* About here, in the manual, you'll notice it becomes dark grey. The dark gray boxes for the settings mean that at the end of the dark grey section, if you press * instead of ®, it will remain in the settings and go back to the beginning of that setting to make it easier to do multiple commands in one setting. If you press ® at the end, it will exit settings completely. Both buttons save the setting, but one remains in the subsetting you're in, while the other leaves settings all together for when you're finished.6. Press another number (this determines what you want to do with that setting such as add, delete etc)7. Press #8. Here it changes depending on the setting:8a. Choose the setting you want via number8b. Enter the user ID you want to change the settings for8c. Enter pin9. Around here, you'll either be pressing *, ® or in the case of modifying/adding user access, you'll be entering the pin and first. So, for example. Add a key card:1. Master pin2. ®3. 3 (Key tag settings)4. # (Confirm)5. 1 (Add)6. # (Confirm)(Here's where the grey starts)7. 2 digit user ID. (01 for example, 1 will return an error).8. # (Confirm)9. Scan card10. # (Confirm)11. Press ® to exit and save OR * to go back to step 7 and enter a DIFFERENT 2-digit ID to assign the next card to the next ID.The lock is pretty straight forward to use. You press the button in the center and it unlocks. When you close it, it has a sensor to detect it's closed and auto-locks (which can be disabled) in 5 seconds. You can also simply tap the pin pad to manually lock the door. The sound on the pin pad can also be lowered or muted completely. Also, if the batteries die (which hasn't happened to me yet, but only roughly 2 months in so far.) it has an emergency power you can slide out the bottom and connect a 9V battery to use it. But, it says it gives an alarm and not to change the battery any more than a WEEK AFTER the alarm starts. It uses 4 double A batteries, so it dying shouldn't happen often. You can manually move the lock to a passage position to allow for it to stay unlocked. As well as either hold the button for about 3 seconds to put it into forced lock mode where people can't get in from outside even with the pin. As well as hold a key card to the outside lock to disable people from leaving by pressing the button and sets off an alarm if they manually turn the lock which in my case since I got this lock since my 3 yr old kept trying to elope and the top lock I had before this had the keyhole break twice. A bottom smart lock would not help since he'd be able to reach.I think and hope I covered anything. All in all, for my specific use case scenario, this lock was a heaven sent for me. It's been functioning flawlessly

Nifty Deadbolt Smartlock
This is a really nifty smartlock if you are not able to use the regular smart locks which involve having a hole in your door frame and can only use a deadbolt lock. The lock came with instructions in both korean and english. You can register various pins and It also came with two key cards and two key stickers you can use to unlock it. You have to be patient and read through the instructions carefully before you start trying to set up the lock.My door is a bit janky and already had a bunch of holes drilled into it from previous deadbolts. I didnt exactly follow the instructions but was still able to finagle the smart lock pretty securely even though I didn't use all of the screws it shows in the instructions.Programming was a bit harder because I didnt realize the register key is a small black key on the corner of the lock. I also didn't realize until after looking it up, that all the key cards/ stickers have to be registered at the same time (you press the register button, then scan each key card/ sticker, then press the register button again). This makes it difficult to purchase a new key card and register it because you have to have all the other key cards on hand to re-register them as well or they wont work anymore. For the most part though, if you are patient and read the instructions for programming and the icon key carefully, it isn't too hard to set up!

Works well!
I want to echo Daniel's review. After many months of looking for a smart lock for these outdated door locks, this is the best option. A bit tricky to setup, however, you can find youtube videos for other locks from the same brand, and the setup is essentially the same. Going into Master mode is the best path forward.

Didn't fit
I was unable to install this product because it was bulkier than my space allowed. Return was easy.

So far, awesome lock
I searched a long time for some sort of smart lock for my patio gate - and no, it's not going to stop burglars but it is a deterrent similar to locking your car doors - this is the only smart lock of its kind that I could find. It looks nice, works as expected, and is smart enough not to auto lock when the door is open.Read Daniel H's review, it is detailed and hugely helpful. I ran into the problem where I set it up in "normal" mode on accident and realized quickly that Daniel H is correct, master mode is the better way if you want multiple codes.I do wish they would get a working app in the US because it would be great to make use of that feature. However, an app isn't what makes a lock smart... just smarter with extra exposure to hacking I suppose. And a fingreprint scanner, just for ease and not needing to find my keys for a fob or type my code when carrying groceries and a toddler! But for whoever said "you have to configure and use it manually, a joke" not sure what this person was expecting. The lock works exactly as advertised.

One of a kind
Not the best quality. But it's the only thing out there like this. It works fine
