This is the third book in the series. All three have received positive reviews. I love a good HR and these three books have been a pleasure to read. I must say these are not from my favorite time period but I took a chance and happy with the decision. I recommend all three books in this series and look forward to reading the fourth book.

Fantastic Read
The book arrived in great condition. This has been added to my books of series of Jude Deverunx and it arrived in a brand new paperback form. I donβt have to say how good it is because all of her books are good especially the series ones. From the begging to the end of her book Iβm so memorize into the book for itβs hard to set this down. I love her writing of these books. Iβd say when you see one of her books to find this

Required Reading for Historical Romance Book Lovers
The Velvet Series from Jude Deveraux is probably the first romance series I ever read, dating back to its release in the early 80s. From the beginning, the Montgomery men found a lasting place in my heart. Reading these now as a (somewhat) mature adult, I'm surprised to find how harsh these stories are, Deveraux choosing to go with realism rather than telling the story through rose-colored glasses. Don't be surprised to find the heroes of the story treating the women poorly, sometimes resorting to what can only be described as rape, but what I can't help but think was predictable in the time period.Even so, the Montgomery brothers were hard not to fall in love with (well, except Gavin, I really never liked him). The women they fall in love with are perfect examples of strong willed women who could take care of themselves. These characteristics provided the catalyst for great storytelling as the Montgomery men learned that being chauvinistic and prideful would only lead to loneliness. Perfect setup for character development amidst medieval England.

A good read and series to have
As with all of Jude's books this one is a good read. It is a series of 4 books each could be a stand alone but it is best to read them as a set because each book tells a little about the others. This one, one of the brothers is considered an outlaw for what he had done and now much live in the woods until the king decides otherwise. A young girl in the middle of the war without anything left flees to the safety of his camp dressed as a boy and must act as a boy to keep from being discovered. She doesn't know what she is about to be in until she can't hide her true self any longer and then she dreads what could happen to her if discovered. A story of war, violence, love and overcoming all to learn to trust.

Loved this from the start.
I have loved this story since the first time I read it about 2 years ago. Of course I am normally a person that reads stories or watches movies in order but somehow I managed to miss the first 2 in this series. I have them all now and I reread them every few months, Jude Deveraux just has a way with words that pulls you into the story and makes you actually see what is happening. Like when she wrote about how Raine's horse going wild due to the smell of blood. As someone who has been trained in the medical field I could smell the tang of the iron from the blood it was so in-depth, I will always love Jude's books and I plan on getting more.

Not for me
Maybe I'm getting burned out on this series, but each book has gone downhill for me. The constant bickering between the H/h for stupid reasons and the unlikeability of the heroine just made this book a drag. I wanted to see how the other Montgomerys were doing after the death of their sister, but this one was not for me.

Velvet Song
These are my absolute favorite books by Jude Deveraux, and I've read all of her books. The 'Velvet' series, as I call them, are delightful and I enjoy the interweaving of the lives of the characters in all 5 books. There are 4 'Velvet' books and then the actual first of the series, but actually book number 5, is a book called "The Black Lyon". I had read that one a long time ago and never related it to the 'Velvet' books until I read this one, "Velvet Song", where Alyx has the lion belt that is described in 'The Black Lyon'. I've purchased the series several times, loaned them out and never got them back and so repurchased them. Now I have them on my Kindle and I can reread them as often as I like. Great, great books. I'm sure anyone who reads them will love them as well.

Where's the Raine we know?
I enjoyed this third installment, but I was left wanting. I LOVED Raine up until this point. I thought he was the absolute best brother, the most responsible person when it came to the caring of others and then he disappoints. *SPOILER ALERT* How could Raine, the loveable, sweet, dimpled character leave Alyx and the baby for a year!! Not even there for the birth!! I think if Jude had written an epilogue I would have been a little bit more placated. I thought this was going to be the best one. Alyx was heart breakingly sweet and loving and absolutely loyal, I'm glad Raine finally came around to be the same. One more to go in the series ^_^ I have to say redo the middle. Please bring back the Raine we know and love. Hopefully in the last one *fingers crossed*.
