Lost Empires: Being Richard Herncastle's Account of His Life on the Variety Stage from November 1913 to August 1914 Hardcover – June 1, 1965

This was a book club choice. It was rated5/10. It was felt that maybe this was written late in Priestleys life and didn't match "Good Companions". Readers appreciated the English used and thought that the descriptions were well portrayed. However, the subject of touring entertainers seemed dated and didn't appeal to most readers. The Empires refers to the wonderful theatres which every city in England had in the early 20th century. The Great War which was about to break out put paid to all that. The rise in Moving pictures was the final nail in the coffin for the music halls.
