It Is What It Is
All right so I have pretty much followed all of this author's retelling of fairy tales. I loved Beastly. I loved Bewitched. And Cloaked. A Kiss in Time was brilliant. So why the low rating on this book.Well first let me start with what I liked. I liked Wyatt as a character. A character with skeletons in the closet for some reason I always enjoy. I also liked that this happens out in the boonies. It seems fitting for a Rapunzel story where there's bound to be this place of isolation. I also thought the magical leaves turning out to be drugs was pretty creative, but at the same time, I would have liked to know more of its origin. Where did the Fox's get this leaf? Is this family even human? I mean, there's kind of a gaping hole there.I enjoyed the mystery. And I felt this was more of a mystery than a fairy tale. But it was well written, so I won't complain about that. I did not enjoy the romance. I am not fan in that 'it's destiny, it's love at first sight' drivel. I know it's a fairy tale, but this is supposed to be a retelling for young adults. I enjoy reading about people falling in love as opposed to it just happening. Come on, that's boring. But what really hurt this novel is that Rachel is boring. And she's the freaking main (other than Wyatt) character! What I liked so much about the other books was the character development. And this book just didn't have it. I don't even remember the villain's names and I just got through reading it. They were boring!I felt sorriest for Daniel - whom i personally liked more than Rachel. The guy she fell in love with was basically out to impregnate her just to fulfill some prophecy. Because that's not creepy at all.

Great book!
Lately I've been looking into some of the fairytale retellings and chose this one to read first. I'm so glad I did! It was better than I was hoping for and it made me want to read more of this authors work. There was a slight plot twist I kind of saw coming but I wasn't disappointed at all. Buy this book!!

Not for me...
Fairytale retellings are my kryptonite. That being said, some are good and others are, well, not. This one falls somewhere in the middle.Towering is a modern-day Rapunzel retelling. Modern-day, which meant I wasn’t really expecting an actual tower. But there was. Right in the middle of the woods. This is where things began to go wrong for me. The story is set in upstate New York, in the Adirondack Mountains. It’s an area I’m fairly familiar with as I’m from only a couple hours north, a small town settled in the foothills of these mountains. A abandoned tower just waiting for a Rapunzel requires quite a bit of belief suspension. Nor is anything about how the tower came to be explained, which makes sense as I think it would be hard to come up with a logical explanation.Equally odd for me was the way in which Rachel was raised. She was kept in this tower, isolated from the world, and kept in a time not her own. Her only connection with the outside world, aside from her keeper, was through the books she was given. Books by authors like Jane Austen. There was no explanation for that either, for why she was being raised to be even more socially dysfunctional than a lifetime of isolation would force her to be.And then the instalove. It truly was instant. It felt so bizarre. Rachel’s be isolated for as long as she can remember, told that the outside world is dangerous. So the moment she meets a boy, there is no hesitation. She welcomes into her lair and then makes out with him. And then the love begins. Ooookay. The plot itself had promise, but it was so convoluted that it was just hard to swallow. It’s hard to talk about the plot without creating spoilers, but I will say that there is a certain amount of acceptance of loose facts required to get through it. Frankly, there are parts of it that just don’t make sense. So, yes. There it is.

I love Alex Flinn and have for years
I love Alex Flinn and have for years. Beastly is one of my favorite books and my copy's falling apart. I was a little disappointed with Towering. While I did like some elements of the book, there were some parts that didn't sit well with me. I liked how the drug replaces the rapunzel from the original story and I also liked the setting of the book. It really felt like there were some plot holes though. The history of the Fox brothers for example, or what really happened to Danielle. The one thing that has me really confused though occurs in chapter 56. Rachel is climbing the wall to break the "curse" of rhapsody. She has a key with her and uses it to unlock a door at the top of the wall she's climbing. After she's unlocked the door she lets go of the key and it falls to the ground. On the next page though, Rachel needs to cut her hair and the only device she has to do so is with a key. She uses the key to cut her hair and scales down her hair to the ground. This part has me unbelievably confused. Rachel supposedly only had one key that fell to the ground, but on the next page she suddenly has it again? Either I missed something or there's a huge plot hole there. I think I would have loved Towering if there had been less pot holes and less sappy romance. I had a difficult time taking Wyatt seriously in his romantic feelings towards Rachel. Although I think I had a difficult time taking Wyatt seriously throughout the entire book. I did like the character of Rachel, but felt very disconnected from Wyatt.

Great twist
Nothing like I expected. I was intrigued the whole time. Definitely more of a mystery than her other fairytale books. I like how she made the story of Rapunzel her own, and the fact she was inspired by Greek mythology.

Contente
Il était noté état - neuf nouveau.. Et à vrai dire j'étais un peu déçue, car la couverture était légèrement pliée. Surement à cause du transport, sinon, rien à dire.
