Cannot recommend kindle version
I hate to write this review because I think overall this is a great book. But, the kindle version is lacking. There is no link to download patterns as other embroidery ebooks have. So without having a large tablet I could use to pull up the pattern and directly trace I’m unsure how I am supposed to get the patterns off of my phone to paper. I could screen shot I suppose and then put into a word document and try and size appropriately — but I’m sure the screen shot will get grainy and this is a lot of work. The kindle version provides zero information on transferring a pattern from an ebook, so it would seem this was overlooked? I emailed the publisher about this and have not heard back. I am going to try and get a refund and if successful will probably rebuy a paper version, but the kindle version - be prepared to be puzzled over how to use the patterns.UPDATE- so I never heard back from the publisher about how to get the patterns for the kindle version, but was able to successfully return the kindle version and get my money back. I liked this book enough with the projects to buy the physical copy instead. If I could rate the kindle and physical versions separately I would. I would give the kindle 1 star because there is no where to get the patterns from, and I would give the physical book 5 stars because it really is a great little book. It has around 20 projects or so and many use fun materials like yarn or metallic floss. The patterns are all simple (in a good way!) that’s makes them really accessible for new embroiderers. Overall I gave this book 4 stars to split the difference between the kindle and physical versions. If the publisher begins providing a way for kindle purchasers to download the patterns I would increase the stars to 5. I am learning that many authors and publishers are unaware that you cannot print a kindle book.

An excellent pattern book full of beautiful patterns and excellent instructions!
I’ve been following Erin’s Instagram, @saltwaterstitches, for some time because her embroidery is absolutely stunning. When she announced this book, I was so excited to be able to support her but also be able to make some of her patterns! The opening of the book explains a little bit about herself and how she got into embroidery before diving into the basics of learning how to get started. When I say the basics are covered, I really mean it! There’s information about embroidery hoops, fabric, needles, and the types of thread yarn used. The pattern transferring options are also covered as well as the pros and cons of each method, so it’s really a matter of preference. Of course, a number of basic and special stitches are explained with written instructions that are accompanied by photos. And yes, the fluffy cloud technique is explained, so if you’ve been eyeing Erin’s work and hope to learn how to do the clouds… you are in luck! She spills on her techniques in the pages of this book. There’s a number of beautiful patterns featured that range from retro to fun in the clouds and stars. All of the pattern photos and instructions are easy to follow and explain any extra techniques that may or may not be needed for the pattern. I’m very happy with this book and I can’t wait to make a couple of these patterns!
