It has its own tray to catch food.
Super sharp, yes that is why they give you the finger guard use it. Cuts food very fast if you not paying attention you could cut a finger tip off. The tray fits perfectly to the slicer, no moving around, and the tray has rubber feet to not move around on the table. I cut a potato and onion in a few seconds and caught it in the tray. I have used these before, best brand to get. I just opted to upgrade for the catch tray, the old one is about 10 years old only needed to sharpen once about a year ago. I will buy again if i break mine. I did not try the extra blades yet but will try for french fries.

Directions in English please!
I use this most often to cut carrots. The finger guard doesn't work well for that, so I've been holding the carrot by the end with my finger and trying to be very careful. I've sliced my finger twice. The second time I was cleaning vegetables off the blade. Is there a safer way to clean it? Can you put it in the dishwasher? The directions are in Japanese, so I have no idea. I never cut myself when using or cleaning a knife. I'll try the suggestions other reviewers gave of using a fork to hold the carrot or wearing a glove that you can't cut through because when you cut yourself with this, it's no joke. The product itself is very useful. It cuts very thin, and I love the collection tray, which keeps cleanup to a minimum (I do put the tray on the top shelf of the dishwasher). I'd just like a more versatile finger guard for things like carrots (it works fine for foods like onions), and directions in English so I can understand the full functionality of the product and use it safely.

Great!
Works like a charm. I can get very thin slices and it can dice an onion in no time. Be sure to order cut resistant gloves to be on the safe side.

Sharp, exquisite tool in the kitchen!
This product makes me look like a professional chef. The tray is very useful and allows me a steady base to hold onto when I'm working with any of its three super sharp blades; the tray also serves as storage for the blades when the mandoline isn't being used. Being able to adjust slice thickness so easily has allowed me to cut most veggies easily. I find the finger-guard not so useful in general because despite smashing it into veggies (so that it doesn't come off), I doesn't allow me to control my grip on the veggies, providing a potential safety hazard; for example, using the finger-guard on small and sturdy veggies like carrots would come in handy, unfortunately, I can't really control the carrot with the finger guard in place. Julienning carrots should probably be done by hand, anyway. My only true gripe about this product is that it doesn't come in the wider option (with tray). It would be ideal to slice bell peppers into circles with a wider tray, but I guess I'll live.

Bought this to replace my mom’s 10+ YEAR OLD one.
Glad to see the quality hasn’t changed at all! The blades on these bad boys are sharp and will remain sharp for years and years. That is Japanese quality! And this one comes with a tray to hold your sliced vegetables. The adjustment knob is now plastic, but I totally understand this decision because the metal knob on my mom’s older slicer became rusted over it’s many years of service—hence me buying this new one.The only thing I have to say is I wish there were more blades with different shred sizes. But that’s not a big deal at all!As with any sharp tool, please be safe with this one guys! Use the slicing guard, wear gloves, etc...

Very happy with my purchase
So far so good. I was very excited to get this mandolin out of the box and in use. It is easy to adjust and change the different blades, most importantly, it cuts through veggies like a charm. I will be using this in my home kitchen and am excited at how much time it will save me, while looking like I spent way more time than I actually did to get perfect, uniform slices and dices. Grew up in a home where everything was cut by hand with a knife, so happy I discovered this to use when preparing food for my own family. I did a fair amount of research before purchasing this mandolin, which is the first that I own so I cannot really compare it with others. Though I feel like I definitely made the right choice when deciding on this one. I'm definitely happy that I decided to purchase the older model with the included tray, it catches the sliced veggies perfectly. Was a bit nervous about having an accident after seeing other reviews, but once I actually had it in my hands and put it to use, I realized that it is not as intimidating as I had originally thought. Though I did also purchase a pair of cut protective gloves to use with this, as recommended by others. The finger guard that came with it is a bit clumsy to use, though I have only been using it for a day, so I'm glad I have the gloves at least until I get used to using a mandolin. Does look like it gets stained fairly easily, but I'm okay with that. Also, the one that I received has stainless steel knobs to adjust, not the green plastic ones, as shown in the photo. So that was an added bonus for me.

Great Quality and Functionality
Simple, but genius design. Don't forget to watch their short videos (in English) on YouTube.

Great product!
I've always wanted a mandolin slicer and did a lot of research before purchasing this one. The reviews were great and I was impressed by the You Tube demonstration. I am very pleased with how it performs. It is very sturdy and works exactly how it's supposed to. Makes food prep a breeze and I like how it has a container to catch the food as it slices. I don't know how it compares to other models, but I can't see how they could be any better. I highly recommend this slicer!

Works well
Very useful for salads. I use a cut-proof glove because the hand guard is small.
