Good bird scarer
I bought this as we had a big crop of cherries, and the thought of putting a net over the tree was too much, so hung a few of these from the branches, and they seemed to scare the birds away, with their fluttering and reflection. And for the first time in a long while we had a load of cherries off the tree, currently making cherry-vodka...

Working . . . so far
I’ve had this in place for about six weeks since sowing some wildflower seeds and so far (fingers crossed) it seems to be working. Pigeons have come as far as trees at the end of the garden but not ventured onto the ground like they did last time I sowed seed. I have canes in the ground with string tied between them and suspend the tape in approximately one metre lengths hanging down from the string. It’s light enough that it moves in only a slight breeze and catches lots of reflection. In strong wind it can get a bit tangled around its self but still blows about enough to be a deterrent.

Keeps birds off - but it is non-adhesive
It seems to deter birds from landing directly onto it. I bought this tape to fit along the top edge of our fence - to stop pigeons from using it as a perch and depositing their droppings all over the place. It is non-adhesive, so I had to buy some upholstery tacks to nail it to the top of the fence.

Effective bird scarer
There are no instructions with this holographic tape. The implication is that it should be tied round trees. I didn't want to do this, even in my large garden. Instead, I cut lengths of about 15 - 20 cm, folded the top 3 cm over and punched a hole with a standard hole puncher, with the tape held on a bit of old card as I did so. I then stapled the fold and put a piece of string through the hole. I tied these 'flags' onto individual branches of each of my seven fruit trees and watched the wind blow them. Although my method took time, the trees looked great (almost Christmas in summer) the birds went nowhere near. Other than the odd plum moth caterpillar, my fruit has remained in perfect condition. Plums have been harvested already and the apples and pears are almost ready. In summary, this is a great product and I'd buy it again! I don't think I'd want to wrap it round the trees, though.
