Cracking Tool
Not cheap but gets up to temperature very quickly 3-4s and packs a punch. Prized bit of kit in my toolbox. I used it mainly for soldering a ground point to the backs of guitar potentiometers where you need high temperatures very quickly for the least amount of time so you don't damage the pot. I used to use a stick iron for this but the dwell time was far to high to make a good solder mound and I ended up with a lot of pot fails that cost me time and money. I've used this on 4 guitars now and not had a bad pot since. Right tool for the right job, that's what they say. I know it's guitars and not something more exciting, but for me, really happy with the purchase and great for what I'll ever need it for.

No regret.
I've spent years just making do with normal soldering irons for bigger joints, slowly waiting for it to heat up enough to flow, with average results. This thing is amazing, exactly what you need for bigger joints, and even for smaller stuff I'm using it as the speed is incredible. Also great for when you don't want heat transferring to the area due to plastics/other components that you don't want to get hot. In and out, make the joint in seconds and you're done. Should have bought it years ago.

Quick to heat up
Heats up quickly. I used it for soldering bullet connectors on vintage auto wiring. It did the job very well.

REPLACEMENT FOR 44 YEAR OLD EXPERT 8100
Replacement for a Weller Expert 8100 bought in 1981 to build an amplifier kit which had some hefty power supply joints, and since used on a regular basis for electrical repairs. The light on the 8100 failed a few years ago and, despite cleaning the intergace and bit replacement, the bit wasn't warming up enough to really cause the solder and flux to flow into joints, moreover replacement bits were very expensive and the threads on the hollow bolts were no longer clamping as well as they did. I suspect that the bits were slighly smaller section so that the bolts were bottoming out before fully clamping the bit.The replacement has hex key studs rather than male hollow bolts to clamp the bit and form a heat path. Whether the the threads in the heater arms will last as long as the old system only time will tell but if it lasts 30 years that will be more than enough. The positive is that that the old system required feeding a right angle bend into a hole, which meant that the bit might end up at an angle or need bending again. The new system is just sliding the bit into a recess.Note that the Allen key is stored in the long slot on the left side of the handle - a nice touch to avoid losing the key.

Fairly early failure.
I had a similar experience to another reviewer. After maybe 6 or 7 small jobs the gun tip only got warm, not hot. The hottest part of the gun from then was the handle/back of the body from where it began smoking...I decided to submit this review after reading some of the others, obviously mine wasn't a unique failure.Very disappointing from Weller, I've used their gear for decades up to now.

Very good.
A brilliant piece of equipment. Quick to heat and very powerful.

Weller WLG940023G 140W/100W Soldering Gun.
What can we say, any one still using a conventional Iron for soldering is doing exactly that, living in the Iron Age, this Soldering Gun has a quick and Full long press in a 2 stage switch, we would recommend using the Full press, which will melt the solder in seconds, no waiting to heat up, allowing much improved and accurate solder flow, excellent design, easy to use, all parts well thought through, good buy, worth every penny.
