Knitting with inspiration
The patterns and explanations were very good. I am proud to say that I have read every book in it.

Most excellent and interesting projects
This is one of those really outstanding books that gets little notice from the mainstream knitting community. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the focus on easy peasy beginner stuff and the fear that anything more complicated than a garter rectangle is going to scare people. The projects in this book are interesting and colorful, the literary references are smart and engaging, and every single piece is actually wearable. The projects targeting male persons are pieces the average guy would be happy with, most of the yarns called for are in the lace to DK range making the scale of the fabrics very wearable. These are not costume pieces - the one playful crown/bennie that has an obvious graphic element is reversible. The patterns are very well documented and an adventurous beginner knitter will find the information that is frequently left out of more advanced patterns. The selection of pattern includes patterns from the complex to beautifully designed simple shapes.I love this book - I would recommend this book to people who are past the beginner stage and want to develop their skills. The book presents a range of techniques and some of the most beautiful simple lace shawls I have seen. (the Meme and Emma Shawls). Even if you never intend to knit most of the projects the construction and details are worth the price of the book.

Retirement gift for a knitter
I don't knit but do read a lot and I think this is a lovely book. I bought it as a retirement gift for a friend who is a also an avid reader of classics and she knits. I think she really appreciated it. It's the kind of book that's fun to have, even if you don't knit! Or ever get around the the projects in the book.

Intriguing Patterns
It was the cloche on the cover that caught my attention, and an excellent tips & techniques section kept it. I was a bit miffed there were no pattern pictures in the sample, until I remembered a simple trip to Ravelry would take care of that issue. I enjoyed seeing what other people had done and while I'm not interested in all of the patterns there were enough I could see myself doing, especially for gifts, that I felt this was a good purchase. Especially when I discovered that I had already placed the Galadriel dress in my favorites.

Fun, classic looks
Present for sister, a very experienced knitter. She looks for new ideas and loves the classic and old-fashioned patterns in this book. Something a little different from modern, fun for people who love the old styles.

Literature major meets knitting needles
The obvious purpose of a knitting book is to provide accurate patterns for functional and attractive knits. Literary Knits: 30 Patterns Inspired by Favorite Books does that well. There are some beautiful shawls and sweaters for women, great garments for men, and fun knits for children. The instructions are well-written, and the general directions are excellent. And this is a book that delivers what it promises. Each project is introduced by a short essay about nuances of a character or the significance of the setting, some catch that speaks to the author's insight that led to the project. This should be on the shelf of every serious knitter.

Fantastic, fun pattern book!
I have always found this designer's patterns really easy to follow and very wearable. This book is no exception. The information section in the beginning is the best I've ever read. It actually has really useful tips and info, not the same old "here's how you bind off stuff" that you already know. And the patterns are awesome. I want to make nearly everything. And even though the patterns are based on literary characters, they are all totally wearable in real life.I would highly recommend this book to any knitter, you will love li!

Some lovely patterns
I am a casual knitter and an avid reader so I was intrigued by the idea of "literary knits". As an artist (and formerly a graphic designer) I was also, I admit, seduced by the beautiful cover of this book! Inside are many very lovely patterns that evoke the sense of particular literary classics, including some recent hits (like "Golden Compass"), but I was hoping for some things that were a bit more fanciful, romantic, or eye catching. Still, I am planning to give some of these patterns a try (an add my own "flair" if I can) and will also be sending this book along to my avid knitter daughter-in-law

Wonderful Book, Wonderful Patterns
For the first time in a very long time I can honestly say I will be knitting more than one item from this pattern book. Usually when I buy a knitting book I knit one, maybe two things from it and the rest don't inspire me. This book is different. The theme is wonderful (and very clever) and the knits are gorgeous. :) I've already knit the Sal Paradise Vest and have at least 4 more on my knit-list.
