Antlers

Enjoyable time screaming my head off
"Antlers" is a horror movie that will make you jump out of your seat and laugh out loud at the same time. This film has everything you could want in a horror flick - terrifying creatures, gory scenes, and a bunch of dumb characters making bad decisions!!One of my favorites, Keri Russell who discovers that one of her students is hiding a terrifying secret that involves a mysterious creature living in the woods. As the teacher investigates, she begins to realize that the creature may be more than just a legend and is now terrorizing the town. The real star of the movie is the creature itself, a demonic-looking beast with antlers!!But the real comedy gold comes from the characters' actions. From running into the woods alone to investigate strange noises to deciding to split up when being pursued by a monster, these characters make so many terrible decisions that you can't help but laugh! This is a must-see horror movie it’s a glorious combination of terrifying creatures and laugh-out-loud moments makes this film a unique and hilarious addition to the horror genre.

Good movie. Slightly zombie/infected feel to it.
A parable about generational trauma. But not in a cerebral or preachy way. No. This movie definitely goes for the throat as far as story and gooey blood stuff. Mostly seen before blood infected type stuff with folklore dangling in the background about wendigo type stuff. Had a blast watching it.

A terrific horror movie buried by an after school special about abuse
This'll be short. I love Keri Russell in just about everything, but in this movie they should have dressed her in chains and weights like Marley's Ghost from "A Christmas Carol" cuz she is dragging around a lot of baggage. Most of the characters in the film are abusers or victims of abuse which adds nothing to the story. But in case you forget, they bring it up every five minutes. So your main protagonist spends most of the movie moping around and apologizing for leaving her brother behind with an abusive father when she ran off to college. The result is you have a foundation for an awesome horror flick that is less about a Wendigo seeking revenge on a coal mining company that is trying to reopen than a PSA about bullying and abuse affecting us well into adulthood. Oh, and climate change is bad! Filmed in British Columbia, which doubles for Washington, the forests surrounding the town and coal mine were perfect for setting a foreboding mood for the film. Unfortunately, except for one brief scene (where the Wendigo eats a kid!!!) the director doesn't do anything else with it.Okay, those are my gripes with the movie. I actually DO recommend seeing the movie as it is still fairly scary and the last 30 minutes are terrific. Jesse Plemons is great as Russell's brother, who also is the reluctant sheriff for the town. The standout, though, is the kid that plays Lucas, the 12-year-old whose dad and brother are slowly turning into monsters before his eyes. He holds his own every second on the screen.

watch if you want to be disappointed
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.The little boy they got to play the main character was marvelous. The concept was super. Wendigo is an amazing and horrifying concept. This movie was a complete flop, however. The main female character (the teacher) just seems like a space case. not credible. not caring. not like in the short story. Even her interest in Lukas is vague or passive...there is no feeling of comittment. maybe the actress just sucks... but she seems cold and defensive. We are also to believe she is a recovering alcoholic because like twice she stares longingly at alcohol...ok? soooo what? This is not about addiction. Or maybe it is...all about addiction. Wendigo's are associated with greed and Frank was also an addict. Either way her "struggle" with alcohol dependency (if you want to call it that) seems forced and out of place. We are also to believe she was molested and/or abused by her dad based on a couple random flashbacks...ok? It doesn't fit. It adds nothing to the story. unless you want to be nice and say, "gee, another example of greed or bad human behavior...hence the presence of the Wendigo..." There is a famous native American actor who dashes in a tiny bit of Native American history explaining the Wendigo...NOT ENOUGH. Its like a trope it is so brief. Well, the audience needs SOME kind of context....here is the local Native American with 3 seconds of screen time. Like a TV movie. Something like a Wendigo and Native American culture needs more exploring. What is the history of this creature, this town? What, he just crawled out of mine??? Next is the ecological element...largely because it is en vogue, I suspect...but there are two (three if you simply consider the presence of a mine..) references to "mans abuse of mother nature". The Native American says the earth/spirits are mad. Presumably because of things like pollution and mining, etc. There is also a radio snippet about the mine opening up...ok?? So, again, the basic/general complaint against human kind being greedy and abusive. Problem is that this doesn't really seem to have anything to do with the actual creature that is ultimately produced. He is still kinda Frank. Sticks with his kids, even eating the school yard bully and a negligent principal. Are we supposed to hate him? I'm kinda on the fence with Frank. He actually does seem to love his kids. The monster is also CGI (of course..) and mostly hidden. It also resembles a Jotunn which is Scandinavian lore...not Native American Wendigo...tsk tsk. Wendigo does NOT have antlers. But it is a shape shifter...I guess. Lukas little brother was named Aiden instead of Todd and this bothered me. It also bothered me that they changed the ending...to a psuedo happy one, and this coldfish teach killed the brother! why not just make him magically revert back to a little boy! You have screwed everything up anyway! In the short story the dad and his sons live and it is the teacher that doesn't make it. I was kinda bummed out by this ending but as a dad I have to say it is way better than an adult killing a sweet little and (at that time) innocent little boy...even if he was doomed to become a Wendigo. Overall, I feel like I could have made a killer movie out of what they had to work with. But a killer movie was NOT made. Finally...not even remotely scary. the only little start I got out of it was when that cop that used to be on CSI got speared by the monster while he stood in the shed.

like gore, jumping out of your skin ? If the answer is yes then this dvd is for you
I really liked this DVD, started slowly with just one jump out of my skin episode, but things got better as time went on, lots of gore , the story really gets you going. and the end well that comes as quite a surprise with lots of blood and gore, and I was left thinking is there going to be another " Antlers 2" really hope so. the DVD took over 3 weeks to arrive, and was over £26, but believe me it was well worth waiting for.
