THE REAL ADVENTURE WILL BE BUILDING THE FIGURES
Someone obviously put a great deal of effort into this math curriculum, and it shows. But that doesn't mean the 6-volume set I received is worth the current price tag of $104.99.WHAT I GOT:6 leveled Ryan's Math Adventure books8 glossy sheets of paper for building 4 figuresPROS OF THE BOOKS:They are colorful and engaging. They tell stories. They teach math in a fun way. They cover a great deal of ground. Each book contains first a comic book and then workbook pages.CONS OF THE BOOKS:If your child can not add 6+4, chances are they can not read the text.Pictures in the workbook are occasionally so small I couldn't make out what was to be counted. It will be a battle getting the books to lie flat enough to do the work.Covering a lot of ground means covering more than one grade level.PROS OF THE SHEETS:They exist – and in theory you can build characters.CONS OF THE SHEETS:The paper is surprisingly flimsy given what you're supposed to do with them. The ink smells. The paper is not perforated. It will take you hours to carefully cut everything out. Hours.WHAT WOULD MAKE THIS SET BETTER:Perforated sheets with sturdier paper.Cutting the price in half.
