The Great Controversy: Conflict of the Ages, Book 5

One of the best books that explains the reasons for the struggles of life
This is one of the best commentaries by Ellen White. That being said, it was a difficult read. The first chapters were historical accounts of the founders of protestantism but it was a struggle going through each chapter and while interesting it became tedious. It wasn't until more than a third of the way through that the book really began addressing the title of the book which pertains to the constant battle with evil. Her views on scriptures are insightful and inspired. The last criticism I will make is that her writing style is overly verbose and sometimes it takes her many paragraphs to explain something that could be stated in one concise sentence. But it is well worth the effort to trudge through all the verbiage to discover an absolute gem of wisdom and knowledge. Perseverance though this book will be eternally rewarding.

From Here to the Eschaton...
I have been familiar with this masterpiece for many years, having been reared in a Seventh-day Adventist pastor's home. Based on my knowledge of the Bible, biblical languages, world and Christian history, I believe this book is a reliable guide to the millennia-long struggle between the powers of good and the powers of evil, or, if you will, the struggle between Christ and Satan as well as to the events that lead up to the final victory and return to this earth of Jesus Christ. Without going into the biography and credentials of Ellen G. White (easily researched on the internet), I suggest that the reader simply read the book with an open heart and clear mind and let the facts speak for themselves. In my view, current and past events strongly support the scenarios presented in this book. I bought this copy on Amazon as a gift for a Christian pastor who is a close friend. I am waiting for his comments! As many folks say nowadays, "It's a great read"... Once you get into it, you will not be able to put it down!It occured to me to mention the other books in this series so that the reader who is favorably impressed with this book could consider the other four. The set of five books is entitled "The Conflict of the Ages" series. The first is entitled "Patriachs and Prophets" and begins, well, where else... at the beginning! The problem of sin, creation of the world and all that it contains, Hebrew history down to the Hebrew Kings. The second is entitled, "Prophets and Kings" and deals with the second half of Hebrew history down to the arrival of "The Desire of Ages" which is the title of the third book and whose title reveals the subject matter, the life of Jesus Christ during His tenure on planet earth. Clearly one of the greatest and most convincing biographies of Jesus ever written. The next tome in the series is entitled "The Acts of the Apostles." The reader of the Christian Bible will know immediately that this is an in-depth consideration of the spread of Christianity following the departure of Jesus from this earth. And finally, bringing the whole panorama of human events to a glorious close is "The Great Controversy"... once read, never forgotten!

Read this book!
This book is also sold under the title of "America In Prophesy." The author uses initials before her last name, so I didn't know that it was written by a woman. I read the book many years ago. The first half (few hundred pages) is a must read for every citizen! It provided me with knowledge about the brutal treatment of the courageous Protestants who merely sought religious freedom. Their treatment was comparable to the treatment of the early Christians and the treatment of Muslims by the Islamic State of Syria and the Levant today. After reading this book it should be clear to the reader that any belief system that requires such utter brutality to force people to believe in it must be a false belief system. The motive of anyone who would use such force and brutality must be questioned. Criminals are the only people I know of who carry through with force to try to get people to believe what can't be proven. Greed and power are the usual motives. I would recommend that anyone who has access to the internet to look up Sister Charlotte Keckler and listen to her testimony. Force is not necessary to get people to believe in the truth. The last part of "The Great Controversy" was a little heavy going for me; the subject matter was beyond my sphere of knowledge and outside my sphere of interest. Nevertheless, this is one of the best and most important books that I have ever read. Another important book that you won't want to put down and is a great follow-up to the Great Controversy is "The Final Warning" by David Allen Riviera. It deals with the great controversy that is taking place today.

Great Historical and Biblical Content
This book is a must have for anyone considering the history of the past, it greatly details the reformers and the applications couldn't be any clearer. The last half of the book bring explains the misconceptions of our Christianity in a rational manner. It is also comprehensive, the title of the book tells the theme and we have a choice in the matter. The justice it delineates is holistic, fair and loving. You may come away with a changed worldview.

Book is accurate. I don't like that after reading it on the second day some pages fell out. that was really odd. I don't know if that was because glue dried or what.. but I did not like that, that has not happened with any of the other EGW books I ordered from amazon.
