Will an ipad mini fit inside? it's about 8" x 5.5". thanks!

I just measured the inside from top to bottom vertically and I got 7 inches to the zipper line and 8.5 inches horizontally... so it will work.

Are the internal dimensions really correct. 3.5 inches tall seems far too short

A Peak Design's online customer service person said 3.5" is correct, which would mean a camera body that is more than 3.5" wide wide won't fit in the 3L (when positioned in the bag as would be necessary if a lens was attached), yet even on the Peak Design website they show what appears to be a 5" wide A7-series Sony body fitted in the 3.5" dimension. Plenty of other photos online show the same thing, do a search and see for yourself. Surprised Peak Design hasn't addressed this apparent discrepancy. Perhaps a 3L owner could chime in with the actual measurement.

Can you wear it on either shoulder with the same functionality? Every model is shown wearing it over the left shoulder but I want it over my right.

Yes you can. The strap is fully adjustable where you can move the padding to where it fits your shoulder. The zipper and pockets are easily accessible. While wearing on either shoulder, you have to just slide the pack a little to front the of yourself to access the pockets.
