Kate Castle is an exciting new writer for the Young adult audience. After reading her novella - Born of the Sea, I was really looking forward to her debut novel, Girl Island.Despite not being the age of Castle’s target audience myself, her characters took me straight back to my own teenage years and dealing with the mean girls. However, this teen story is not set in a run of the mill High School but instead an island in the Indian Ocean, and so unfolds a story of survival.A great read- I will be buying Girl Island for all the teenage girls in my life!

A really exciting adventure story with plenty of twists and turns. It also highlighted how cruel and unpredictable people can be in difficult situations. Also how important it is to have friends. Very readable and would definitely recommend it.

An easy read with a very captivating story. Couldn’t put the book down and fell in love with the characters. Felt like I was on the island with them! Have read both books from this author and can’t wait to read more 🌴

Such a brilliant adventure/survival/romance story, I really enjoyed it. The characters were all well drawn and believable, I cared about them and couldn't stop reading because I wanted to know what would happen! Highly recommend this fantastic novel 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I’ve never read William Golding’s ‘Lord of the Flies’, but from what I know of it, I suspect this may be something like the female version. It’s an easy read with a really likeable main character, Ellery, and other excellently portrayed side characters too. I’m not the target audience for this book but that didn’t stop me really appreciating it (I can’t say I truly ENJOYED it due to some of the sheer viciousness meted out here - both verbal and physical). It’s definitely a recommended read if you want a salutary lesson on the depths to which some people will sink, when seeking to survive…
