Effective rat catcher.
Worked much better than I anticipated it would. Caught and killed 2 rats in 2 nights! Works like the old school mouse spring traps, but this is bigger to accommodate the size of a rat. Was easy to set up and install peanut butter in the little cup to use as bait. No poison to worry about for pets or kids. But the spring and jaws were very strong so keep them away once the trap is set. Still had to open the jaws to let the rat drop into a bag for disposal but was easy to do.

Ok, I admit it, it's a better mouse trap.
Somehow I got a rat in my attic. I put a fancy electric rat trap up there to catch him as well as a couple wireless cameras to try and see how he was getting in (because I haven't had any rat trouble for years). A week later, noises in the attic still but nothing in the trap. Camera footage showed the rat going right up to the electronic trap but being to suspicious to go inside. Frustrated, I looked for an alternative - enter, the Tomcat. I placed a couple Tomcats in the attic and within 4 hours that rat was caught. Done! As others suggested, I connected the Tomcats to a little bailing wire and secured to nearby screws so the rat couldn't drag it off, and that worked fine. There's a bit of play on the trap's trigger paddle so if you're careful you can ease that paddle down a bit toward the release point and make a 'hair-trigger' out of it. Hold the trap securely open with your hands while you press the paddle and gauge where the paddle will snap the trap shut, then leave the paddle very close to that point and you have your hair trigger. Nothing fancy, no mods, that's what I did and it worked great - don't get your fingers snapped! its I found this trap to be very effective and would definitely buy again.

Easy to use mouse trap
This is a very easy to use and effective trap for small mice. I found evidence of one in my kitchen and ordered this one with the recommended bait. Once the trap was set, problem was solved in less than an hour. Doesn't kill instantly but does eventually. No mess and reusable are other benefits. Highly recommended for small mice, about thumb size.

Nice trap
4.5 out of 5 stars As colder weather set in, a small but determined mouse attempted to make itself comfortable in my home—clearly viewing it as a seasonal rental rather than a private residence. Before the situation escalated to the point where it felt entitled to pantry access, stove privileges, or an Italian name, I decided to take action. This trap resolved the issue quickly and effectively. Setup was straightforward, placement was easy, and the mechanism worked exactly as intended. It provided a clean, humane, and decisive solution without the need for poisons or ongoing mess. The reason for the 4.5-star rating instead of a full 5 is simply that proper placement still matters; a bit of strategy is required to ensure success. Once positioned correctly, however, it performed flawlessly. Highly recommended for anyone looking to protect their home during colder months when pests start looking for an invitation inside—without turning the situation into a long-term roommate arrangement.

Works plain and simple! (We’ll kinda)
Look I’m not gonna pretend I’m a friend of rats and mice, however I take no pleasure killing them, but I have a rodent problem in my house and I’m beyond stressed. I’m surrounded by woods which is a haven for rats and mice and because winter is coming they found away to get into my house. I tried the human traps in hopes I can catch them and release them at a distance from my house. Not because I care about the rodent but because I don’t want to clean up the carcasses, but they never went into those traps. No more misses nice girl. I’m beyond pissed about having my house invaded by the disgusting creatures. I got the traps in the mail today I set them up early afternoon at 11ish pm one off the trap killed a rat!!! I’m not looking forward to cleaning up the mess but I’m very impressed. I used peanut butter as bait (just encase you’re curious what used). On a side note these are more easier to set than the traditional snap traps. Edit just after 12am rat number two met its end! So far these 2 traps killed 3 rats! Edit….. I have to revise my review a bit. The good as stated above when they work it’s great quick kill easy clean up. The bad: I ordered two sets of these traps the first set worked great the second set not so much. One of the traps did not want lock open therefore where useless. Plus after awhile a couple of the other traps did the same thing. These traps are too pricey to stop working. The Ugly: one trap got a rat but didn’t kill it. So I have now give it 3 1/2 stars. Mostly cause they seem to stop working after awhile.

The best traps ever
These traps WORK! If you need a rat taken care of fast, this is the one! I’ve had it set not even 12 hours and it already got our intruder. Trap is extremely easy to bait and set without putting your fingers in harms way, extremely effective and strong with a sturdy construction, works on even very large rats, and is equally easy to empty!

Can be sensitive so be careful how you touch it or move it once it's set.
Works really well. I had tried the green bait bricks which did nothing, they ate all of it and loved it. Bought this trap and used peanut butter and peanuts as bait. Within five days I caught two large rats, one in the garage and one in the back yard. One was on the smaller side so I took someone else's advice on here about using rubber bands to take up some of the tension and it worked like a charm that same day. Sturdy and easy to set. Would recommend.

I live in a semi-rural area and have a problem with rats getting in the roof (and gnawing on electrical wiring) and under the house. Hitherto I've used bait stations, which certainly kills the rats, but they die in the roof or in the sub-floor and create a stink for a couple of weeks. After reviewing a couple of cheaper and similar design traps I settled on Tomcat — and they work a treat. I caught this specimen on the second night, adjacent to a hole where they were getting under the house. I'm happy to recommend Tomcat Rat Snap traps — a quality product that works.

I have used snap traps of various types for years with limited success. I have heard that rats can actually eat the bait on some without tripping the mechanism and also know what a trap looks like and actually can trigger the trap without getting caught. I can verify that as absolutely true as I use an infra red wildlife camera to see the routes the rats take and have seen rats "teasing" the trap. having seen the reviews I decided to try the Tomcat trap. In the first 3 nights I caught 4 rats. Unbelievably two rats were killed at the same time. Since then it has proved effective with more kills. I like the removeable bait holder as it can be cleaned easily and recharged. Also I think the matt plastic and more shell like construction makes it less conspicuous. Whatever it is proving to be a great product and worth spending that bit more on. Peanut butter is also the best bait I've used so far. I was told Nutella is good but that never worked very well. I tend to smear some peanut butter on things in the area of the trap which seems to also help entice the rats onto the trap. Thoroughly recommended !
