One can quickly tell that there are three magnets equally spaced apart inside the barrel. So if you’re trying to pick up nuts or bolts the magnets have to be directly over them in order to pick them up. For people who complain it’s not strong enough obviously have not tried it around a lathe or drill press, get too close and it grabs the heavy steel quite aggressively. I almost wish it wasn’t as strong. I also found that it does fling swarf off back at you when pulling back on the release. The solution for that is to slide the wiper ring forward until it touches the first bit of swarf, then pull the release back and the swarf doesn’t fling it just drops straight into recycling can.
