The Science Chef Travels Around the World: Fun Food Experiments and Recipes for Kids Review: Another Great Kid's Cookbook By The Authors - After really liking The Science Chef, I bought this kid's cookbook. It's fabulous! There isn't any glitz or glam with the graphics, but that doesn't matter to us. Like it's predecessor, it has chapters on detailing cooking skills and how-tos. It also has a chapter about cooking safety. The recipes are very good and there is a wide variety. Each country has a chapter and the very first paragraph or page details country information, including some translated words. All around great for expanding minds and having fun while learning. One of our favorite experiments is how to tell an acid from a base in Germany. My 12 yr old son and I also really like the"what happens when you cook custard?" And taste testing the results. My son then made the flan and it was delicious! The egg rolls from China are also very good and fun to make. This book is a fun way to learn and bond together while you get to travel while not leaving your kitchen. So glad I found this cookbook used on desertcart (not sure it's available new). Review: Great for homeschool - I have truly enjoyed using this fun cookbook to teach my daughter about other cultures, food while sneaking in science lessons. The recipes are delicious and perfect for a 10-12 yr old.

Perfect for Teachers and Home School Parents!
If your students are working on country reports or if you want to add some fun projects to your geography lesson plans, you MUST HAVE The Science Chef Travels Around the World! This unique "cookbook" features lesson plans on 14 countries: Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Israel, India, China, Japan, Thailand, Morocco, and Ghana. Each lesson includes brief historical information about the country, a science investigation, and several recipes that best represent that country. History, science, and life skills, all in one lesson! How fun is that! The recipes are easy to do and use ingredients that can be found in most stores! Measurements are in both English customary and metrics - math class, too! Examples: Thailand includes a science investigation on growing bean spouts. The recipes included are Thai Salad with Bean Sprouts, Zippy Fried Rice with Chicken, and Banana-Nut Dessert. Spain includes a science investigation on cooking custard and understanding the difference between a sol or a gel. The recipes included are Flan, One-Pot Paella, and Pimento Drop Biscuits. France's science investigation demonstrates how plants take in nutrients and features recipes such as Mixed Green and Celery Salad, Pick-a-Filling Quiche, and Dessert Crepes with Raspberry Sauce. The book is illustrated with kid-friendly black and white drawings, the font is easy to read, and the layout is well organized. There is a section on cooking skills and another on safety rules in the front of the book. The appendix includes information on nutrition, the Food Guide Pyramid, the nutrient content of recipes, and food safety. This is a book that makes teaching and learning FUN! Five stars!

I picked up this book at the library last week and simply adore it. The science is light, but just as cookbook for kids... fabulous. The recipes are great and the kids are cooking up a storm (and learning a few things along the way).

Great book for exploring new recipes and cooking with kids!
I expected a recipe from each country to be included, but was pleasantly surprised to find that most countries had at least 3 recipes, several countries included 4-6 recipes to create a full meal! Each country has a short introduction as well that tells a little about the region and popular foods from different areas around that country. The science experiments are basic, but a great mix of science and food prep that will be easy to perform with common kitchen/household/food items. We are looking forward to incorporating this fun book into our 'Around the World' studies in our homeschool.
