These replaced a some burned out incandescent bulbs in a couple of older flashlights. They fit perfectly and are much brighter than the old ones. LED's should also extend the battery life. Just wish they came in a smaller pack. I'll be long gone before I can use all 10 of these.

These 3-volt pre-focus LED bulbs are direct replacements for those used in many smaller flashlights and penlights. Upgrading is as easy as removing your exiting bulb and installing one of these. The package I bought has 10 bulbs in a reuseable plastic box, and at $8.99 for the pack, that's less than 1$ per bulb - which is a great value in my book. These bulbs are classified as "cool white", so the light they create is a crisp blue white in color. I can't speak to the life span of the bulbs or if your batteries will last longer, but I would assume an LED would use less power than a filament bulb. My only concern is that the bulb I "tested" was just a millimeter smaller at the base than the filament bulb it replaced. That may or may not be true of the other bulbs in the pack and it did not keep the bulb from working properly once it was seated.

I discovered an old penlight in my stash of junk. With a pair of AA batteries and an incandescent bulb it was pretty dim. Not quite useless but not something I'd reach for if I needed a light. In the last few years I've come to dislike incandescent bulbs for general illumination. LEDs are brighter, more energy efficient, and last a lot longer. As a result, even though this penlight is a useful size and seems tough as nails (it has an all steel body), it sat unused. One day I took it apart on a whim and, after some detective work, discovered that the bulb was an E10. This pack of 10 bulbs was the least expensive option for LED bulbs so I ponied up $8 and waited a couple of days. The bulb dropped right in and, with a freshly-charged pair of AA batteries, the light is WAY brighter than with an incandescent bulb. It's about as bright as any of the other AA/AAA penlights that I've seen. It's quite useful for small repairs and task lighting, and it fits unobtrusively in a pocket or tool bag. It isn't a flashlight but it can do a lot of flashlight stuff in a pinch-- I've used it to walk around in a dark backyard, for example. I bet there's a lot of these penlights sitting unused in junk drawers everywhere. Adding an LED bulb converts them from another piece of obsolete technology to a useful tool. Now I have to keep from buying every old garage-sale penlight I see. I DO have another 9 bulbs, after all...
