Think it would be a good addition if you need more background help to First Aid. Personally I didn't have time to go through this entire book. The parts I did cover seemed too detailed for the USMLE, but I would use again to go over specific topics I needed more help in.

While "First Aid for the USMLE Step 1" gives you all the high yield points generally needed for the examination, it doesn't necessarily explain them. That is where this book helps. This book attempts to explain all the points of the "first aid" given in section II. That being said this book is not entirely sufficient by itself. It still has certain deficiencies and inconsistencies. 1. General Embryology and ANS from pharmacology have been completely removed. (I have no idea why though, as general embryology section was present in the previous editions). 2. Microbiology section is really good. Explanations are awesome. Pathophysiology of microbes are explained well. Complement it with the main first aid book for those finer points and tables (exotoxins for eg). 3. Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Pathology sections are not so great. 4. General anatomy section did feel unnecessary and slightly inconsistent. 5. Immunology section is really bad. Overall its not a bad book and i would recommend it for people who don't like watching video lectures or don't want to follow kaplan. Images are a great and the fact that this book closely follows first aid is a plus point.
