Officers and Soldiers of the French Imperial Guard 1804-1815, Vol. 4: Cavalry and Horse Artillery

All of the books in this series are must haves, but only if you are even remotely interested in the Napoleonic period. The illustrations are a miniature modelers wish come true, as they are an excellent guide to the painting of any size miniature. The colors reproduced in the book are spot on and the detail of the illustrations is remarkable. Included in each book are illustrations of all ranks, displaying them so one can see the differences easily.

These series of drawings by Joineau are quite useful in identifying and tracking changes in uniforms of the various units. The author has gleaned from other sources (especially French) and has translated the info into clear precise drawings. Given the varying and sometimes conflicting sources, the author has done a decent job. These drawings are a boon to figure modellers and uniformologists but they should do cross-referencing to check the facts.
