Texas Instruments Educational Products - MSP-EXP430G2 LaunchPad -

I received exactly what I expected, but I'm removing one star because of the $24 price tag. A few tips for other buyers:1. I used the included instructions to download the relevant software for Windows, and then I easily began blinking the LED by following the YouTube video "MSP430 LaunchPad - Blinking LED" by AdrianFerTI.2. The header pins ARE soldered onto the board. In the picture they are not, but on the product they are. That's a good thing!3. If you order directly from the manufacturer, the price is $10 plus shipping. Of course, ordering from Amazon is much more convenient and the shipping is probably faster.

I highly recommend you buy this together with "Programmable Microcontrollers With Applications, MSP430 LaunchPad with CCS and Grace," by Cem Unsalan and H. Deniz Gurhan. The book is specifically tailored to the MSP430 G2 and is an excellent source for learning C++ and Assembly programming for the MSP430 family. Although, the book uses CCS version 5, it is not very different from the current version 8.x. The book also has really good programming exercises at the end of each chapter. Together the LaunchPad and book will teach you everything you need to know for projects with the MSP430 family and CCS that you WILL NOT learn from TI documentation alone.

Works just as expected and very well at that! With the energia IDE it's basically just an arduino clone.However, I wish I had known that you can get a more powerful chip on the launchpad for the same price off of amazon. This is one of the lower end chips.If you're looking to buying this search for the launchpad that has an msp430fr*.

Good introductory development board or way to get some experience with an msp430 microcontroller. Took away a star because getting the IDE software and driver's installed was not quite what was written on the instructions that came in the box

I used this product for my microcontroller class. It worked great, and it came with an extra IC and a cool sticker. The crystal required to be manually soldered on, but that wasn't too hard. Would recommend.

You can't beat what these things. Less than 20 dollars and you get a lot of experimenting fun. We have used these for school or just to teach our children a little bit about programming.

If you are just starting out, you are going to also need a book or plow through online pdf documents. Pretty sweet board though. I see that that the board has jumpers so that after programming the chip, you can pull the jumpers and run the chip in isolation like it would run in the final project.
