You Don't Want a Unicorn!

We got this book as part of Amazon's book subscription. It's about unicorns which my daughters love. And it's neat that the main character is a little boy. So my daughter really likes it which is what matters, but I am personally not a fan of books that read like I am talking to the characters (for example the book says something like "whatever you do don't do..."). I know a lot of kids books are written like this but for little kids I feel like I have to explain things as they are happening because the text is not enough. That is just a personal pet peeve and like I said my daughter likes it and that is what matters.

I like the kind of stories that use the narrator like they are talking to the kid in the story and the kid reading the story (think "dragons love tacos"). My girls age 6 and 3 love this story. The only thing is that the cover under the dust jacket isn't the same as the dust jacket. It doesn't even have the title under it. Any books that come with dust jackets, usually get the dust jackets immediately thrown away because little kids are terrible at keeping them on. When the cover doesn't match, it is kind of annoying.

I love, love, love this book! I don't have children, but work in a library, so I see things like this come through quite a bit. It made me laugh so hard that I took it home & had my husband read it. I then decided I needed to add it to my collection. Sadly, I didn't pay enough attention, and ended up with the board book. I gave it to a colleague at work who has small children, and now they love it!

I recently started a book box subscription and this book was in the first box. The book was very highly reviewed and I had high expectations for the story. Honestly, after reading it multiple times now, I don’t find it funny or well thought out. It is well illustrated. And my kids concluded that unicorns are mean after reading this book. I do not think that was the message the author intended. I would not recommend this book.

HILARIOUS! A big hit with my daughter. It's already a top pick for birthday presents for her friends. :)

This story is absolutely precious!! Are media specialist at school read it to my kindergarten class and I had to buy it!!! I have read it over and over and over again and each time they giggle!

Love it. Dude, seriously you do not want a unicorn. My daughter wants to know what happened with the dragon.

Cute book but not as cute as I expected. I was hoping for funnier things. I will however be giving it to a little girl that I think will love it. I think I will stick to Robert Munch, his books are hilarious for kids and grown-ups reading them
