Basher Science: Planet Earth

First off, the information is 100% accurate. And then the author/illustrator runs off with creative animie characters and clever descriptions. The book is captivating, amusing, and smart. Each topic is covered in a two page spread, one page is the illustration of the hero, the other the zany description our hero/villain. This format lends itself to both browsing and cover-to-cover reading.This year, I used this book as the background text for the earth unit in our homeschool (gr 2&5) To keep it fun, I did not assign reading in this book (assignments are boring) we just talked about the characters and jokes in the book, "Did you see Rift Valley's head? Yeah, he's got a splitting headache!" I covered the same topics in the same general progression of the text with experiments, diagrams to color, and puzzle-based worksheets. My kids read the text themselves several times. At the end of the unit we played charades and had some good laughs.I am a huge fan of the Basher science books. When our first Basher book arrived at our house, my children bickered for who got to read it first. Ever since, I order them in pairs so it's all fun.

My students love these books AND I love these books! I have students who reach for them when they are done completing classwork, after tests and in study hall. I teach 7th grade science and I am constantly using these as in class references to explain topics to students who may not understand; these books put vocab into kid friendly terms that aren't intimidating. I currently own around 8-10 of the science themed books from Basher, I buy them as they get published and have been building my "library" for about 5-6 years now. These would make an excellent gift for any kid, a teacher or yourself for that matter. They have amazing graphics, are excellently written and are well made/bound.

We love all of the Bashers books, and have purchased every one of them since they first came out with the Periodic Table of Elements when my kids were still in grade school. All of the Bashers science books present the material in a simple and organized manner which makes learning easy. In addition to the simple way the books are structured, the art work is charming and really adds to the learning experience. My children are young adults now, and we still continue to enjoy these books, they are even educational for adults! These books are a fun way to review information or get a quick overview of a topic you are just starting to learn. I would highly recommend any Bashers books.

This year my brother-in-law bought the Basher's "human body" book as a gift for my daughter. After reading it with me several times, (in just a few months), I decided to begin supplementing our Earth Science classes with these cute and awesome little books. They are very clever and amusing. It is easy to read the books to all five of our children as a bedtime story because it appeals to them all. (our kids are ages 1-9). I just received the "Planet Earth" book, and am not disappointed. It holds their attention, and personifies complex concepts in a way that is easy for them to understand. They are excited to be learning Science. (Anyone with kids appreciates this). My brother-in-law started an exciting journey through this series.

I got this book for my 9 year old son to supplement the home school curriculum that we use. He is really interested in everything about the Earth right now! This book presents a lot of fact in a way that keeps his attention. We both like that the information is presented from the point of view of what is being described. I'm looking forward to checking out more of these books. We now have The Human Body, Rock and Minerals, Planet Earth and Astronomy. My son reads them often and can usually find something new every time.*I paid full price for this item. This is my honest, unbiased opinion.

We have enjoyed the fun little snippets of info that come from this series of books and was excited to get the Planet Earth book. I was surprised when I got to the pages on greenhouse effect and climate change. "Admittedly, I'm a natural phenomenon, but those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. My hothouse antics are just as much the fault of you stupid humans!..." I was offended at people being referred to as "stupid humans" and being chastised for my "insane" love for car, planes and fossil fuels. I would think a book for kids could have handled the subject with a bit more class. These pages seemed to lose their cheekiness and were just down right mean.

I really do not understand why but my 8 y.o., who would rather play on the computer than read a book, is obsessed with these Basher books. He brings them to school, he reads them on his own... I have ordered several of them, and will order more. He also reads the ones that are way above his comprehension level and loves them, constantly telling me bits of info from them.

we found our 1st Basher book in Ho Chi Minh City airport 2 years ago & bought it for our son to take on holiday. Boy, he loved it so much we have bought almost every other book ever written in the series because not only does he love them, but also his little sister! They are now 8 & 10 years old and have so much fun while they learn...we thoroughly recommend all of these great little books.

Just looking through the colorful characters with affable faces would brighten your mood up. The way that the book explains things would facilitate the anchoring of the basic knowledge covered in the book.Highly recommended.

Wonderful. This is like an insightful executive summary for kids written in a breezy, humorous way without being flippant.It serves as a wonderful way to revise key concepts or understand concepts form a fresh new perspective.Just check the listing details and watch for the fact that some Basher books are small, some large, some in paperback and some hardcover... all at around the same price. That was a little frustrating.

The kids loved this one! a pocket size books with info and facts on our world and its elements. Like most children they are facinated by Volcanoes or Tidal waves or any of the elements around them really and this little book helps to answer some of those questions that pop up now and again.I love anything that encourages the kids to read a book. Once seperated from the tv or games console they realise that there is so much in this world to look at and this little book helps with that.
