Did exactly what it was suppose to do.
My 2005 Mercury Mountaineer 4.0l SOHC V6 170K Miles started making the dreaded timing chain "rattling" noise for a couple of seconds at startup when cold. After doing some research and watching a few videos, I decided to get these and give it a try. I primed, installed and torqued these as described in the videos. On first startup I thought I was going to have to call Scotty in the engine room and have the core ejected :) . After a few seconds, the noise stopped and has not returned since. Subsequent cold startups have absolutely no noise what so ever. I consider this preventive maintenance and not a fix for a damaged timing chain assembly. I have included a picture of the box indicating these are made in Italy and are not some Chinese knock off.

Absolute Junk!
Cloyes is about to hear from my lawyer. DO NOT BUY THIS TENSIONER! I rebuilt my engine 6,100 miles ago, but the Cloyes tensioner I put in it collapsed. Yes, the first tensioner only lasted 6,100 miles. So, I bought this one, primed it up, then torqued it down to spec (just like I do with every tensioner I install). As soon as I started the truck, the tensioner flew apart causing the timing chain and the cassette to break. I'm beyond angry and frustrated! I've been a mechanic for 16 years and have never seen anything like this happen before. Please stay away from Cloyes. Everything is being made in China now and it's all junk.
