Rachel is a blushing bride whose perfect nuptials take a surprising turn at the altar. An innocent glance between Rachel and an unexpected wedding guest is all it takes to spark a 'love at first sight' romance with a surprising twist - the object of Rachel's affection is a smart and sensuous... woman! Review: Great movie with a few flaws - This movie is refreshing as a sweet lesbian love story. I was impressed with the quality of the film. How rare is it to find a lesbian or gay movie without drug use, promiscuity, pointless graphic sex or a host of other trashy things thrown in? Very rare in my experience. Unlike most in the genre, this movie is good CLEAN fun. Instead of focusing on sex, the film is centered around the feelings developing between the two female characters. This movie was unfairly rated R, apparently because two women falling in love and kissing (but never doing any more than that) is so very "dirty". After all, it would be a shame if anyone under 17 could watch a sweet movie about two women falling in love. The one truly irritating part of this movie is a straight male "friend" who likes to run off at the mouth endlessly spewing crude and vulgar things. This pig is the only thing that warrants concern when considering showing this film to younger viewers, but would never be rated R on its own. I've seen worse language and sexual references in PG-13 movies. Aside from this one loser, the movie is a joy to watch. I'm just disappointed with the homophobia and ignorance that contributed to the R rating. Young people could use more positive images of gay and lesbian characters like the ones we see in this movie. Review: The best LGBT film out there IMHO - Let me say upfront this is my personal favourite film of all time, so I am a bit biased. Being a lesbian and Scottish I have always been a little bit cross that most films in the UK that have to deal with the LGBT community are about gay men. Its nice to have such a modern, fresh, well acted, real, and thoughtful film. I also really like the fact that they don't shy away from the fallout of what happens when this sort of relationship occurs. Somebody always gets hurt and in this film they did not portray the man as "the bad guy" or deserving of what he got. He is a wonderful, handsome, funny man that most any women would be happy with, if they were not gay. Both women had to deal with guilt and a huge feeling of hypocrisy of what they do. In a nutshell, this film is about a woman who marries her best, life long, male friend but at her wedding she meets a woman and discovers that she is very attracted to her. The film then goes on with how she deals with it and eventually the decision she makes. The fallout is not candy coated but also not overly dramatic which really adds to the film. And speaking of that the film does a wonderful job of adding light hearted moments and some comedy that keeps it from being "over the top". There are several scenes in this film that are just magical and the little girl who plays the main characters younger sister nearly steals the show. Just seeing that wonderful wee girl act her arse off is worth the price of the disk alone. And for those of you who like Anthony Head, he does a nice job as the main's father. Also, a rare thing these days, every role in this film is wonderfully cast. IMHO it's an LGBT masterpiece AND a very good film on its own merit. Most LGBT films may be good LGBT films but lack that something that makes them overall good films. I think this film is every bit as good if not better than Brokeback Mountain but as there is no big name talent and a smaller UK production it didn't get the exposure BM did. (And not to be mean, lesbian films just don't get the respect that gay films do.) And lastly the film has a wonderful sound track. If you want a nice, well written, not to preachy film about a modern day lesbian fairy tale, this is about as good as it gets. Enjoy!

Important
I wish there were more sapphic love stories like this one. Most of them are period pieces or end in tragedy. This was light hearted and a great watch! Fantastic casting

Universal love story or lesbian love story? How about both
With 300+ mostly positive reviews, readers have ample reason to decide this film is well worth watching, so I see no need to add another review. My reason for writing is to address the discussion among some reviewers and commenters as to whether or not this is a "lesbian" film. I can understand some wanting to emphasize that this is primarily a love story and that it doesn't explore the often struggle/angst when discovering love for one's own gender. However, a few of these writers suggest viewers can overlook the fact that the two who fall in love are both females, as if this is a shortcoming. That, I think, is a disservice to the film and the readers. Those that state this is not a lesbian film make me wonder what they would consider a lesbian film. Would there have to be steamy scenes of the women naked in bed? Would the situations and appearances of the women have to be stereotypical? Would the women have to be faced with internal, familial, and/or societal homophobia? Keep in mind that this is a romantic comedy, not meant to explore complex dramatic issues such as in The Kids Are All Right. For me, what makes this a lesbian film, first, is that a main character (Luce) identifies herself as a lesbian and the other female lead (Rachel) clearly has a strong emotional, romantic attraction to Luce unlike any we see to her husband, even at their wedding. (During her toast she explains she married Hec because it's always been smooth sailing for them and he is her best friend.) Further, during the credits at the end of the movie, we see Rachel in what appears to be a comfortable and settled relationship with Luce. Secondly, the chemistry that builds between Luce and Rachel is clearly based on interactions between two women. The scene that most clearly illustrates this is when they go dancing at an arcade, a scene that is girlishly playful, flirty, and downright sexy. Likewise, the conflicts and dilemmas they face in pursuing a relationship when one is already committed are shown from distinctly female points of view. Not that men don't suffer guilt in romantic comedies, but they get over it far more quickly. Overall, I don't see the need to view this movie as a universal love story OR a lesbian love story. It's both. Still, while labels can be confining, they can be useful. One reason we watch movies is to see reflections of our own lives, to see that we are not invisible to the world. If a label tips off to a community that here is a film you might relate to intimately, then the label has been valuable. While I dearly love the romantic comedies featuring straight couples from the 1930's up to the present, "Imagine Me and You" holds a special place. It says a story from the perspective of my kind is also worth being told.

...truth in subtle ways.
Amazon has been recommending this movie to me for a long time, but I kept ignoring it, thinking it was going to be another cheesy fall in love with a woman who is married, hot torrid romance thing, and then end in sadness. I guess I should have read the description, because I finally broke down and rented this and watched it. …and I’m absolutely in love with the movie now, I keep finding myself going back to various scenes and re-watching it. It’s adorable and witty, and beautiful on so many levels. It’s not a coming out movie, it’s a movie about someone falling for someone else during her wedding. There’s a realistic emphasis/conversation about cheating, but in a positive way with characters who support one another through the process. No, they’re not rooting for one another, but this isn’t a movie that is about lesbians being lesbians and the coming out process, etc. It’s about two people who fall in love a little late. It’s funny that I’ve read some reviews about the movie being implausible. However, it’s not so much the plot that I would focus on in that regards. The small little thoughts, tiny day dreams about someone else, the warmth that you feel when you see them, or the desire to just be around them. Those are the little moments in the movie that stands out to me and remind me a lot of young love. It’s in those moments, which I feel are well portrayed, that makes this movie one of my all time favorites in a very short span of having seen it. I can finally watch something on the screen that is the most plausible to my own experiences in that regards.

I don't care what anyone says - this movie is one of my all time favorites. I love movies that leave you feeling good and you are not going out the door trying to "get it". Everybody loves love and happiness and feeling good. There is enough reality in the real world and sometimes we love a break. To be honest, I think the thing that I liked best about this movie is that it leaves you with a feeling of hope fulfilled. Even the guy at the end on the plane was happy knowing that life goes on and there is happiness right there for all who follow their heart and do right. I thought the acting was superb and very believable. Let all those critics who denounce this movie, scratch their heads and try to come up with something else to make life harder on us. My gosh, what do they expect - we want something deeper than real life.

Leave your preconceptions at the door and enjoy this heart-warming movie
You might be forgiven for initially thinking that the splendid "Imagine Me and You" is very much in the mold of the usual Romantic comedy - a genre that British writers do so well at - but this one has a distinct twist in the form of departing from the usual girl-falls-for boy & vice versa formula. Writer & Director Ol Parker has produced a lovely movie centering around love at first sight between new bride Rachel and her wedding florist, Luce. OK, the fellas reading this have probably now sat up a little straighter and are rubbing their hands together in anticipation of a bit of titilating Sapphic action between the two gorgeous leading ladies...However, beautiful as Rachel (Piper Perabo) and Luce (Lena Headey) undoubtedly are this is primarily a story about love. It's a credit to both actresses and the writer/director that the subject matter (and kissing) is dealt with in a sweet & loving way rather than a sleazy fashion. By turns very funny (I particularly liked the teaching a girl how to shout properly at a football match scene and a brilliant comedic performance by Anthony Head as Rachel's dotty father) and at others touchingly romantic this is a film that anyone who enjoyed 'Notting Hill' or 'Four Weddings will find themselves in familiar territory with and enjoying immensely. Music (always an important ingedient of the Brit Rom Com) is first rate, with the toe-tapping Nolan's 'Feels like I'm in love' and upbeat 'Imagine me and you' by The Turtles as the title song. With this being a romantic comedy a happy ending for everyone is assurred and I am unashamed to admit that (despite being a red-blooded, 30 something, married, hetro guy) the final scenes in the London Traffic Jam had me blubbing like a little girl. Girls: Try it on your boyfriend/husband/partner and see if it doesn't have the same effect on them...! Just don't stop the movie as soon as the titles roll or you'll miss the extended happy 'epilogue' scenes. A brilliant feel good movie that proves, as it says on the box, that the path to true love isn't always straight... Sure to earn a permanent place in your DVD collection - whatever happens to float your boat.
