Tips from a Noob
So not going to lie, I’m only about 4 months into 3D printing so in no way am I a professional, and if the information I am about to impart on you is a “no brainer”, I sincerely apologize, but this could have saved me weeks of frustration. As stated, I am new to 3D printing. I have been using Hatchbox PLA exclusively in my Creality Ender 3 Pro with Glass bed (which I highly recommend) and for the most part, having little to no trouble at all. Then I bought a 1KG spool of the AMOLEN PLA Printer Filament, Multicolor Silk Metal Rainbow. Right off the bat, it felt “different” than the Hatchbox, stickier and more pliable. Load it up and try a quick sample string test print and it will not adhere to the bed. Just keeps getting all jammed up and stuck on the hot end. OK, no worries, I will just clean off the hot end and wipe down the bed with some alcohol and try again. Nope. Same thing. Check the bed level – it’s good. Swap back in the Hatchbox, prints like a champ. Put back in the AMOLLEN, no go. This goes on for a few weeks of putting the AMOLLEN back in, trying to get it to print, getting aggravated and putting back the Hatchbox. So, all the time I’ve been using Cura 4.6.1 as my slicer and have not adjusted a thing in the settings. Just for kicks, I decide to up the hot end temperature from 200° C to 220° C and lower the bet temperature to 50° C and BAM! It’s now printing with the AMOLLEN filament like a champ! No other adjustments necessary. Prints are coming out smooth and flawless. Again, I’m sure that this info is nothing new to a seasoned 3D printing vet, but to me it was going from throwing out the spool because I could not stand to look at it to what can I print now with this awesome multicolored filament. Buy it, with a little tweaking you will love it.

Get your settings right
For every other PLA filament I've used I've set the temperature to 200 and went with it and gotten great results from wood PLA to marble PLA. But my first print with this material it came out pretty brittle, a decent amount of errors and not shiny at all like what I was expecting. So I then turned my temperature up to 212 and it made a world of difference. I printed the exact same thing and its so much stronger the layer lines are less pronounced and its very shiny in comparison. So 212 worked for me and I just did 215 and it yielded the same results so if you're not getting the results you had hoped for with this filament try turning up your nozzle temp it likes to be printed a little warmer than other PLA. You can see the difference in the pictures of my prints. The print is called steampunk cube gears on thingiverse.

Prints good but..
This PLA prints nice but the color change is slow. You will not get a vase like the product image shows unless it uses 40 meters of filament. I have printed 2-1/2 (half way through another right now) vases about 7” tall so far and they are all still the same color. If you want a color change in your print you have to print large with lots of infill or find another filament. Amolen has offered me a refund on my purchase but I have declined it as I have used a lot of the roll and it would be fair of me to take it. Great customer service though, updating to 4 stars just for that.

This is fun stuff once everything is dialed in!
A great product that gives consistent outcomes, once you get everything dialed in. With my printer (Adminlab Gantry Pro) the temp reading on the display is not always correct. I use a non contact thermometer to get things to the right temp and speed for each material. The customer service with this company is second to none! I had some trouble at the start, so having never used PLA silk before I emailed them before giving a negative review and received an informative answer quickly and now I am turning out print runs that look like polished metal. This is a must have material especially for holiday decorations. I will be making some bottle charms for New Years eve with this, and am currently printing some neat Christmas ornaments. Take your time, get your printer dialed in for this and enjoy! ( you may want to consider a .2mm tip and slowing down your print speed, it made a huge difference for me.)

Challenging to figure out, Pretty once as you get it
TL;DR - Use these settings for an Ender3:Hot End Temp: 210CBed Temp: 65-70CSpeed: 35mm/sCooling Fan: 100%I just got my Creality Ender3 Pro about two weeks ago, so I definitely consider myself a beginner. My wife wanted some pretty gadgets and found this filament. The first thing I printed with it turned out great: an octopus light switch cover. I decided to follow it up with an oversized d20, and things weren't working out...At first, I thought it was something to do with the printer. I swapped out the magnetic bed for the glass. I changed nozzles. Started looking into different cooling vents. Even went so far as to learn how to use non-acetone nail polish remover to learn how to get rid of some artifacts I would find. In other words, I started learning all of the stuff that newbies eventually figure out about 3D printing. So I gotta give it kudos for providing so many teachable moments! One serious trick I found out is that after I preheat the printer for PLA, let it stay preheated for a while. After about 5min, I'd notice some material pushing out of the extruder even though I didn't start that nor an automatic purge was happening. If you leave it alone, it will stop, but when you cut it off it'll start again. So I started a little ritual with this and ever five minutes I'd just cut off whatever oozed out, and check again; once as it stopped, I'd start my print.Using brim or raft settings, I'd notice that the first 10cm or so might not print out, but once as it starts, it's smooth sailing. The picture I have with this review is for a planter my wife wanted to give to her mother on Easter... About a week's worth of debugging, self-education, and labors of love went into that 95% completed print pictured.

Beautiful finish
Had been looking for a nice colour swapping filament to make some scale furniture for the daughters toys to give them a bit of unique look.Read some reveiws online and Amolen was in the top 10 for quality and pric so gave it a go.First up, one of the main issues reveiwers had was bed adhesion, Amolen themselves recommend 50c and i've found that to be low for all PLA (for my 6mm glass beds) Ive always used 60c with no issues. Wiped with Sani-Cloth 70% wipes and since it was a long print just a light spray with some extra hold hairspray.Printed beautifully and stuck to the bed with no issues whatsoever. The finish is metalic and shiny, the colour change is gradual and looks fantastic on the Spiral tower model (off thingiverse) that i used as a test print. The print in the pictures was done at 0.1mm layer height with a 0.3mm nozzle at 30mm/s and took 17.5 hours (i shrank it to 100mm tall)

Hardly any colour change, brittle filament, can't recommend but perhaps just a faulty batch??
Really disappointed with this filament. It was described as colour change every 5m; however the spool I received only alternated between off-gold and a green shade, more like 50m. No other colours, and I only have about 20% of the filament left.It also is much more brittle than other filaments, adhesion and warping also a problem, leading to quite a few failed prints. Things improved a little by adding rafts to my prints, though this shouldn't really be necessary, especially when printing flat items (like a coaster) I thought maybe that was because of the silk sheen, however other silk filament I've since used don't have this problem.Perhaps this was just a faulty batch, as I also bought a four-pack of filaments from Amolen and these have been much better.

Wow!
First time I have used a colour changing filament, it is excellent, the filament was wound on to the reel perfectly so had no knotting issues there. But the finish, it is one of those OMG moments, the sheen is stunning. I made and item for someone and I didn't want to give it to them it looks that good. Beautiful. I will be buying more of this.UPDATE! ok, so 6 months ago last year I decided to give 3D printing a rest. An Ender 3 (standard) and this filament. 3 days ago I started 3D printing again. The filament had been sitting on the spool through varying degrees temperature and moistures as my other half uses her tumble dryer in the same room. After some bed levelling. The prints came out perfect! So, do I recomend this filament? Hell Yeah!

rainbow pla 5metre color change!!!!
6/12/2020 2nd purchase november 2020 see 1st review- this prints ok on prusa mk3s and looks well, however dont believe the colour change -they state it changes colour every 5 metres -not true- the 1st print did change colour after approx 6 metres!! the second colour has now printed and at 15metres still the same colour and still has some left on spool,so not as advertised it is nowhere near as bad as the last one but i suspect looking at spool the colour change is nearer the15m + Amolen false advertising

A good way of evaluating silk PLA without purchasing a large quantity
Per kilo, this is an expensive way of purchasing silk PLA and rather annoyingly the small reel quantity seems to be different between the various colours. However, since this filament is primarily for decorative purposes, this is a good way of getting hold of multiple colours without purchasing larger reels.Like other silk PLA products, this filament produces rather brittle models and layer adhesion can be problematic particularly on thin features. You will need to print slowly as well. This is just the way things are with silk PLA, not a specific criticism of this brand. The results can, however, look really beautiful. A nice touch is that each reel includes a small sample of a different colour, so that in ordering pink and blue I also got samples of silver and bronze. The samples are sufficient to print at least two 20cm calibration cubes, so you can easily evaluate them. All four colours were quite beautiful and certainly comparable to other silk PLA products from other vendors.
